i'm not sure these playoffs have even been that great, but the pirates bummed me out so bad this year that just watching pretty good playoffs for a couple weeks has been extremely revitalizing

(my great uncle was a priest at loyola chicago and there was always an event weekend we'd go out for, since he was on my dad's side and two of my mom's sisters lived in the greater chicago area)

like, obviously there was no reason for them to burn his arm out this year, but they set a big and consistent precedent for how many pitches paul skenes throws that they'll then use next year, and then from there ... etc.

not like this is an original thought, but i did wonder when the pirates pulled skenes between 85 and 105 pitches how much of all this is self-fulfilling prophecy
