"fails to score ten points for the first time since 2007" is one thing but "fails to score ten points for the first time since before the iPhone existed" is WILD
For the first time in the regular season since Jan. 5, 2007, LeBron James failed to eclipse the double-digit mark.

His streak lasted 1,297 regular-season games and predates the announcement of the first iPhone.

After 1,297 games, LeBron James’ 10-point scoring streak ends with Lakers buzzer-beater
James scored just eight points in a 123-120 win over the Toronto Raptors, ending a regular-season run that began in January of 2007.

i like oviedo and kinda suspect there might be a higher ceiling there than some people think, but garcia is more than i would've guessed they'd get for him in a trade
OFFICIAL: We have acquired OF Jhostynxon Garcia and RHP Jesus Travieso from the Boston Red Sox, in exchange for RHP Johan Oviedo, LHP pitcher Tyler Samaniego, and C Adonys Guzman.

look i don't want to be annoying but:

1. it's OK to consider kirby puckett's career ended early without creating a sliding standard, context exists.

2. this article refers to 3,000 hits as the previous "minimum standard" for the hall fame, which is just wildly false and has never been true.

Bowl News: The Bahamas Bowl is now the XBox Bowl and will be played at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas (the Dallas Cowboys indoor facility).

The game will be Missouri State vs. Arkansas State

whenever I see this topic, I think back to @robarthur.bsky.social's two-parter from 2021 on fielding and how much better it had gotten. First part covered how defenders were playing deeper, removing a bunch of hits thanks to better athleticism and throwing ability in particular:

This is a good dive into something we've been talking about for a while and which many people refuse to admit:

fielders are too good, low BA is not just hitters wanting launch angle or whatever

More hits? Make it harder on fielders.

You're going to hope this is about exit velocity, which it kind of is. But also, it's not.

andor makes rogue one WORSE, because rogue one is a weird tonal mishmash that has no idea what it's trying to do until it gets the characters to scarif.
yes i have seen ANDOR, no it does not “make it better” because any given film should be evaluated on its own as a standalone text.

the thing about the pirates' offseason plans is that there's a pretty good baseball case for trading keller, in the composition of the organization, what keller's value might be to a contender, and the fact that the team has so many needs that they actually can't fill all of them via free agency

this is in the 29th paragraph of an article about HOW SERIOUS THE PIRATES ARE ABOUT SPENDING THIS TIME, SERIOUSLY, THEY'RE SERIOUS FOR REAL, after a giant picture and a section break.

in grad school a friend of mine was convinced i was doing something illegal by using an antenna to watch the world series over the air
I’m just thinking of this because I’m watching football while not paying anybody a penny: Do Americans know that you can (still!) watch HD digital broadcasts of all the major networks over the air, for free, complete with programming guide data, just by hooking up an antenna to your TV?
