Today at @baseballprospectus.com: Continuing our survey of the viewing experience of watching three home games for all 30 teams, here's one for the yinzers, who, as explained, may not be able to see the team play at night. I mean literally can't see them.

Every few years a reader says "STICK TO SPORT!" When that happens I get to ask: "What does that even mean? Does that mean when someone shoots the Cubs' first baseman we can't mention the gun?" This edition was prompted by @matrueblood.bsky.social's column from the Twin Cities. Free at BP.

didn't know this series was in the works but the game(s) were absolutely revelatory for me. some of the best media I've ever consumed. Richard Schiff was incredible as Odin in the game, too.
I know fuck-all about this game but I love this conceptually. Yes. Yes, Mandy Patinkin IS the all-father. Please get him some ravens immediately.

We talked about the Peralta trade, and also about how I forgot we hadn't done it the week before, somehow
There's a new episode of Five & Dive up for your afternoon commute. @jeffreypaternostro.bsky.social, @cdgoldstein.baseballprospectus.com and I talked about the Brewers selling (aw, they're sweet), the Nationals selling (hello, human resources), and the White Sox buying (meme not created yet).

I just cannot stress enough that when you subscribe to a site you are signing up for what they choose to produce. You don't have to agree with or like everything they publish. It just has to be worth it, on balance, for you. When it's not, cancel the subscription. It's that straightforward.

Morning, all. Since the offseason is winding down, @ginnysearle.bsky.social, @cdgoldstein.baseballprospectus.com and I took a moment to look at which teams forgot to turn in their homework.

Also, I made up a woman named Marge who's going to die in the next eight months, and felt bad for her.

you're not really misunderstanding, there's just additional context. 1) the Dodgers cashflow would be just fine with the additional $45m. 2) they have to hold the amount they're going to owe him (minus 5%) in escrow (so present value, basically) anyway.
It is the structure though is it not? With a 10-470 contract, that's 47mil going out to Ohtani each year. With the current one it's only 2mil going out but it counts as 47 against the luxury tax because of weird accounting. Or am I misunderstanding?

our Red Sox top prospects list is out, headlined by The Mass Pike himself, Payton Tolle. It's a thinner system than recent years mostly due to graduations, but there's still impact at the top and intrigue further down:

Premium subscribers will get PECOTA access starting 2/10 during PECOTA Week
There's also a note in this week's State of the Position about a PECOTA darling. The last update on PECOTA went out less than a week ago. You can get every single update here if you're subscribed:
