Writing a baseball article and taking shots at the Garfield board game of 1981, feels good. This is what I was meant to do with my life

If the Mariners lose tonight they should pump Centerfield on repeat until the last person leaves the stadium. Play it all weekend, loud enough that people hear it as they walk their dogs. Keep it going all through the winter

"I do not care if the Seattle Mariners win or lose today. I just want to experience it without guardrails on my heart."

The Seattle Mariners and their fans have died many, many times. We are still here. Let's win the damn game. open.substack.com/pub/thelight...

To put it another way: A subscription to BP costs a dollar more per month than the amount Apple+ and Disney+ *increased* their monthly rates in October. It's ridiculously cheap and you get to support great independent baseball writing. Give it a shot.

This one is for subscribers, which I know will limit its reach. If that's the case for you, I'd suggest you consider subscribing to BP; it's only four bucks a month for an annual subscription, which is basically the same price as Howdy, the service that lets you watch Ski School without ads

After weeks of internalizing and suffering, I tried to examine why exactly the Google Cloud with AI ads were upsetting me so much. I think it's a good one.

I went into this piece aiming for a Ratto-style takedown, and wound up just feeling depressed, because to thine own self we have no choice but to be true

I just feel bad for him because someone clearly already took his giant canvas sack with a big dollar sign painted on the side filled with gold coins

My boy was very pleased that his dinosaur got to be on the internet. My wife was less pleased that our shitty laminate kitchen floor got to be on the internet

I really appreciate that. And I'm very happy for Clement - after all, they can't be three-run homers unless they have guys on base when they happen.

My latest for @baseballprospectus.com is on the team presidents of the Red Sox and Dodgers giving public support toward the idea of centralized broadcast revenue and TV rights. Which puts Rob Manfred in a better position for his revenue-sharing plan than Bud Selig was at the start of his own.
The Red Sox and Dodgers Might Defect To the Side of Revenue-Sharing | Baseball Prospectus
Revenue-sharing was once a controversial concept. Now, it could be transformed and expanded.

I just asked my son what baseball positions he knew. His answer: "left base, right base, batter, umpire." It warmed my heart. In an alternate universe he could have become a Mariners fan

Hi! It looks like you threw Javy Báez a pitch in the strike zone. Would you like some help?
