Doing something a little different this morning at @retroxp.bsky.social: there *is* a 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game on the Sega Saturn, but instead of a traditional platformer, it's a racer. @kimimithegameeatingshemonster.com has all the details on this game that showed off the Saturn's power.

My latest for @baseballprospectus.com is on the team presidents of the Red Sox and Dodgers giving public support toward the idea of centralized broadcast revenue and TV rights. Which puts Rob Manfred in a better position for his revenue-sharing plan than Bud Selig was at the start of his own.
The Red Sox and Dodgers Might Defect To the Side of Revenue-Sharing | Baseball Prospectus
Revenue-sharing was once a controversial concept. Now, it could be transformed and expanded.

I purposely don't put re-releases or remasters on my year lists unless it's never come out in the region before or is so fundamentally different in its new form that it's genuinely a different game. So I think I get to keep doing this RYUKYU bit given those rules.

I actually do have a Ys LP already (Kate bought me Falcom's Ys field songs collection a couple of years ago)
marcnormandin.bsky.social
I have the CD but always forget to take it out of the car, so now I have to be that person who has two different versions of the same thing. About something else, I mean.
marcnormandin.bsky.social
ty for reminding me I had been meaning to get Ys on vinyl

the only thing Kate and I really disagree on is whether or not we should eventually go to Disney World, and she is not by any means a Disney adult, so I feel confident in saying I'd be outta there

Kershaw might pitch again, you never know

no one did, and then the Volpe mess happened. They obviously do a lot right, but they've got these consistent issues they can't seem to solve, and little turnover happening, so. Makes you wonder!
marcnormandin.bsky.social
You're strongly disagreeing with something I didn't say, though. I'm only talking about them having this weird obsession with keeping Boone around regardless of what should be reams of evidence against doing that very thing, not their player development or overall analytics.
marcnormandin.bsky.social
right, but the issue is that no loss meaningfully changes their calculus lol

listen his ghost is keeping Vladimir Guerrero Jr. full of hate for the Yankees, are you telling me it can't still send some feelings out into the world?
marcnormandin.bsky.social
sure, but Yankees fans have been making (correct) points about why he's got to go since at least 2018. At some point it's just time. The problem is that no one running anything over there is good at this part of their job, either, or else this wouldn't even be an issue anymore.

“Why isn’t anyone covering our indie games?”

1. The gaming press has been decimated by business suits, and the whims of an uncaring search engine behemoth
2. Doing the job means you get death threats and harassment
3. There are more games released in 1 week than there were in entire months in 2015

firing a manager to make him a scapegoat is one thing, but if you think there's some value in actually shaking things up to improve what seems pretty clearly to be a ceiling this team has, I mean is it going to go worse if you do your due diligence?
marcnormandin.bsky.social
yeah I think even if you don't think Boone is necessarily at fault this year, he's had plenty of time to show everyone how unimpressive he is, he clearly doesn't inspire the Yankees to go above and beyond in any way... absolutely worth the risk of finding someone new who might.

cool make sure you have a new job queued up for them then
marcnormandin.bsky.social
yeah, I know "just write it!" has been the response here as if that will magically solve deep-rooted issues in the industry, but you write something no one knows about it, it doesn't do numbers, someone comes to you and says "hey don't bother doing that again, it's a waste of time"

And if you're a smaller site that doesn't have to concern yourself with corporate overlords, you do still have to contend with PR deciding you don't qualify for a review code because your reach isn't significant enough, which impacts you in a different budgetary and prioritization way.

Think you're missing that this is about survival, and not always what a writer would prefer to be doing. Like people aren't excited about writing "How To Watch" posts for every sports event, they do it to keep the lights on, and that has taken priority.
