I do enjoy writing baseball books in which I've written characters ranging from like 5'8" ish to 6'6"+ with a bunch of different body types. I do find it funny in books when they're like, "he was impossibly tall (6'3")" and I'm like ... impossibly tall for an old-school shortstop or... ???

Gene Ionescu has always loved every detail of baseball, but non quite so much as its near-complete indifference to the body. In few other sports can a five-foot two-inch sprinter appear on the same roster as a six-foot five-inch pitcher. Size—muscle, height, maybe a few inches of reach or long running legs—helps. But baseball also rewards the patient, the crafty, and perhaps most of all, the optimistic.

also not to get into publishing on main, but I had someone reach out (unprompted, uncompensated) and tell me I had a very consistent grammatical mistake in my ARCs of Breakout Year (since fixed) and it was absolutely nicer than just letting me go on like that
