"But as in any KD Casey book, the third party in the relationship is ‘baseball’, which here acts as a hard to please lover."

I was trying to think of a good summary of this book, but a pal did it for me. Breakout Year, an mm sports romance, is out in the world!

The cover of Breakout Year by KD Casey. The book is green. Objects important to the characters (baseball equipment, tea, plants, etc.) are present.

Kershaw is so homophobic he doesn’t even think two strikes should be thrown together

me: why do I like watching lefty jewish pitchers with good curveballs so much?
also me, seeing sandy koufax on tv: right!
kdcaseywrites.bsky.social
they need to stop even thinking the word "elbow" in front of a pitcher

on march 29 I texted a friend "the lord (the yankees infield defense) is testing me" and well...
kdcaseywrites.bsky.social
oh and under no circumstances do you let ben rice fix his teeth the way judge did. that probably is less important, but we ca't be sure.

imagine investing 218 million dollars in a lefty groundball pitcher and not having a third baseman for much of the season. couldn't be me.
kdcaseywrites.bsky.social
if the new york yankees want to pay me a very reasonable 10 million dollars, I will tell them how to fix their shit

I do enjoy writing baseball books in which I've written characters ranging from like 5'8" ish to 6'6"+ with a bunch of different body types. I do find it funny in books when they're like, "he was impossibly tall (6'3")" and I'm like ... impossibly tall for an old-school shortstop or... ???

also not to get into publishing on main, but I had someone reach out (unprompted, uncompensated) and tell me I had a very consistent grammatical mistake in my ARCs of Breakout Year (since fixed) and it was absolutely nicer than just letting me go on like that

why did this remind me of the article I read yesterday about logan gilbert telling cal raleigh to be, well, more unvarnishedly honest (mean) about pitch calling

the kindest thing an editor can be is (gently, caringly) mean

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

every team needs a token ally for the playoffs and without him, the phillies are all raw milk opinions
