This is a real problem in San Francisco -- the delivery bikers

The maximal shoulders thing is really interesting to me. Like 4' and 10' should be fine even by highway engineer standards. That adds 16' to the whole ROW

The only thing that looks off to me about this is using the most expansive definition of Jefferson. The North Coast is its own thing.

Illinois just joined the legal fight to keep Trump from sending red states National Guards into blue states. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10...

They also both filmed in West Texas around the same time. I had no idea

I'm conducting a film experiment: rewatching No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood. Both released in 2007--I'd forgotten. Which is better? The former won more Oscars, incl. Best Picture. But the latter seems to be better remembered.

Or just take the Muni headsign route, and just call it "Transit Center"
steveboland.bsky.social
Just watched a YouTube video about Link21 that got most things right, but reminded me of one of my hangups: Can we stop calling it *Salesforce* Transit Center? We all know by now that Marc Benioff isn't some local boy made good, he's just another tech bro. Call it by its proper name: Transbay.

I know Democrats have other issues to deal with at the moment, but someone needs to put a stop to this madness. This is climate arson that we're all paying for

Meta is constructing its largest data center yet: a $10 billion facility in Louisiana, as big as 70 football fields, requiring more than twice as much electricity as the City of New Orleans.

Louisiana has had to greenlight $3 billion in new energy infrastructure to service Meta's facility.

Imagine doing something about loud cars in Oakland. Imagine

If your city isn't installing speed cameras and isn't installing monitors for excessively loud engines, you are letting criminals ruin your quality of life while leaving money on the table.

The fact that SF cameras have already caught thousands of people going more than 15 miles over the speed limit is a perfect illustration of why these cameras were needed in the first place. www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/s...

I too am developing a revolutionary transportation technology that does all four of these things, except more efficiently.

can drop your kids off at soccer practice without you - making it way more viable to be a parent with multiple kids in different extracurriculars. They can allow people without a driver's license to fully participate in society in the many parts of our country where that requires a car. They can reduce the stress of a frustrating commute to actual meaningful time spent reading, talking with your family, or just getting work done.

can even help fix our built environment: No more fighting over parking spots, no more building giant, expensive concrete parking garages when so many can just drop people off and then be recalled

There was an alternatives analysis around 2002/3 or so that correctly concluded that any sort of rail in this alignment would be setting money on fire. Unless you could somehow preempt every signal. We really need to get away from this idea that trains on streets are good

Intercity rail in this country is in a race to the bottom when it comes to amenity and comfort. The only part of the onboard experience that is getting better is accessibility

The Amtrak San Joaquins line no longer staffs the cafe, so they just have a ton of sodas and snacks sitting in the former cafe car like it's a little league game.

The kids on the train are positively gleeful.

Do you ever think about the fact that Wikipedia is the last good major website on the internet? You aren't bombarded with ads. It doesn't try to push video on you, and it doesn't redirect you to a scam site.

I think @gavinnewsom.bsky.social's calculus is that he thinks all those rich people blowing up his phone right now will open their checkbooks when he runs for president in 2027 and all the heat he'll take for the veto will have blown over by then.

He's wrong though, a veto will sink him for sure.
shanedphillips.bsky.social
I'm baffled that the governor could be considering a veto. If it isn't signed then there's no chance we turn around the state's housing crisis. If we don't fix the crisis then higher office is out of the question. The only path to the White House requires doing the right thing and signing it.
