A history of domestic violence Blanchet’s history of violence against intimate partners spans two decades. Since 2004, he has repeatedly been convicted of assaulting different women — mostly receiving fines, suspended sentences and probation over the course of over 15 years. He did a few stints in jail varying between one and five and half months. During this time, Blanchet was found guilty of breaching court-ordered conditions 16 times. The orders included attending addiction and violence therapy, keeping the peace and doing community service. Blanchet was first convicted of offences against Boucher in 2017 while still on probation for earlier assaults against another partner. After further attacks on Boucher in 2020, Quebec court Judge Serge Cimon sentenced him to 23 months and three weeks in jail.

Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. also suggested that the US leader “may” walk away from Ukraine peace efforts. At today’s meeting, Zelensky emphasized the importance of unity between Ukraine, Europe and the United States, speaking alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

When co-authors Francois Lapointe and Raymond Bradley began carefully examining their 3,000-year reconstruction of North Atlantic sea surface temperatures, they noticed something surprising: a sudden change from very warm conditions in the late 1300s to unprecedented cold conditions in the early 1400s, only 20 years later. Using detailed marine records, Lapointe and Bradley discovered that there was an abnormally strong northward transfer of warm water in the late 1300s which peaked around 1380. As a result, the waters south of Greenland and the Nordic Seas became much warmer than usual. "No one had recognized this before," said Lapointe. Normally, there is a transfer of warm water from the tropics to the Arctic. It's a well-known process called the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, or AMOC, which is like a planetary "conveyor belt." Typically, warm water from the tropics flows north along the coast of Northern Europe, and when it reaches higher latitudes and meets colder Arctic waters, it loses heat and becomes denser, causing the water to sink to the bottom of the ocean. This deep-water formation then flows south along the coast of North America and continues to circulate around the world.

In 2019 and 2020, Cole purchased multiple items consistent with the components used to make the bombs at Home Depot, Walmart, Lowe’s and Micro Center stores, according to the affidavit. The FBI assessed that the pipe bombs were made of a 1-inch-by-8-inch pipe, end caps, a 14-gauge red and black electrical wire, a nine-volt battery, a nine-volt battery connector, a white kitchen timer and steel wool, among other parts, the affidavit states. Investigators then went through Cole’s purchase history and determined he bought all of those supplies over 2019 and 2020, the affidavit states. He also purchased equipment that would help put together the bombs, including safety glasses and a wire stripping tool, the document states As for the cell phone location data, the affidavit states the FBI obtained historical cell site records for January 5, 2021, and records associated with Cole’s cell phone. The records are “consistent with the Cole cell phone being in the area of the RNC and DNC” that day, according to the affidavit. Finally, Cole’s vehicle, a 2017 Nissan Sentra, was observed driving past a license plate reader at about 7:10 p.m. that same night less than a half-mile from the spot where the pipe bomb suspect was first spotted, according to the affidavit. “This cold case languished for four years until Director Patel and Deputy Director Bongino came to the FBI,” Bondi said. “The FBI along with US Attorney Pirro have worked tirelessly for months sifting through evidence that had been sitting at the FBI with the Biden Administration for four long years.” Current and former officials, however, said the characterization that the evidence was gathering dust until the Trump administration is false. In May, Bongino said in a post on X solving the pipe bombs case was among his and Patel’s top priorities. “Shortly after swearing in, the Director and I evaluated a number of cases of potential public corruption that, understandably, have garnered public interest,” he wrote. “We made the decision to either re-open, or push additional resources and investigative attention, to these cases.”

Before taking the FBI job, Bongino said on his podcast, “I believe the FBI knows the identity of this pipe bomber on January 6, four years ago, and just doesn’t wanna tell us ‘cause it was an inside job.” He also suggested that if the “inside job” allegation were proven to be true, the FBI would claim the bombs were a “training exercise.” Bongino has continued to focus on the pipe bomb case since arriving at the FBI, sources told CNN. In a Fox News interview soon after taking the job, he said, “I’m pretty confident that we’re closing in on some suspects.” That wasn’t exactly true then, people briefed on matter told CNN at the time. Some leads that had developed didn’t pan out. But in the months since, investigators produced additional leads that were more promising. Just last month, Bongino touted in a social media post on X that the bureau had increased investigative resources, flown in “police officers and detectives” to review the FBI’s previous investigative work, and conducted internal reviews.

In addition, under Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the U.S. Manual for Courts-Martial, service members must obey lawful orders and disobey unlawful orders. Unlawful orders are those that clearly violate the U.S. Constitution, international human rights standards or the Geneva Conventions. Service members who follow an illegal order can be held liable and court-martialed or subject to prosecution by international tribunals. Following orders from a superior is no defense. Our poll, fielded between June 13 and June 30, 2025, shows that service members understand these rules. Of the 818 active-duty troops we surveyed, just 9% stated that they would “obey any order.” Only 9% “didn’t know,” and only 2% had “no comment.”
