Exploring the world through craft beer, running, and sports.
I am not surprised, but this is incredibly disappointing.

Thank you for sharing my fundraising link for GLASA. I've been SO fortunate to race for this life-changing organization and play a small part in furthering its mission. 🧡💙 🏃‍♂️

GLASA
For the fourth consecutive year, I am running a marathon in support of the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA). From the moment I signed on to run the 2022 Chicago Marathon for this organi...

I don't regularly see how others benefit from my actions, but I know that they do. I know someone's life is better because I chose to run a marathon. I know someone will go do BIG things because I know that my job is to do little things to make the world a better place. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

W.E.B. DuBois called it "each one, teach one." For me, it comes down to one objective. "I live in service of others." I'm still not quite sure how I found this as my role in the world, but it is. This is my job. It is my task to help others. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

Buckminster Fuller talked about being a "trimtab." That's where my heart and soul comes from when I talk about "making the world a better place." It's that acknowledgement that if I can do something for others that we will ALL eventually benefit. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

But really, I run marathons for adapted athletics charities because it's the small way I get to make BIG changes in the world. We're not all destined to do great things that will generate tons of attention, but we can ALL do something that will lead to incremental change. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

Q: WHY do I run marathons for adapted athletics charities?
A: To make the world a better place.

There really is a lot behind that WHY, but that's the short, simple answer. I could talk about James 2:14-18. I could talk about my visits to Fussa's Shinto shrine.

Most importantly, I get to contemplate and focus on my WHY. I get to think about why I run. I get to think about why I'm running THIS race. I get to think about WHO I run for. I get to think about WHAT happens next (btw, never a flipping clue despite all my pondering). #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

Now, I get to obsess over the race. I get to discuss and think a LOT about strategy. I get to contemplate how weather may/may not impact me (and other runners) on Sunday. It looks like it'll be hot and humid, which is not ideal for long-distance racing. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

I've never spent a week exploring a city/country before a race, so jet leg has been a bit different for me. I was dead tired upon arrival, but a short nap helped. I've been behind on sleep, but never woken up feeling unready for the day. However, I know I need more. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

The past few days, I've covered about 25 miles walking in Madrid, Toledo, and Barcelona. Those are purposeful miles walking in each city. That tally doesn't account for the mileage exploring museums and other spots. So, now I'm focusing on reducing my steps. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

It was a struggle deciding whether or not to refrain from alcohol while visiting Spain the week before my race. I consulted with my run coach and wife, and I ultimately made the choice to enjoy some periodic beers with the plan to go sober the days leading into the race. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

I have some lofty goals for Sunday, and I made the decision long before my training block started that cutting out almost all alcohol would make a difference in my performance. We'll see if that holds true, but I can say that my body has recovered MUCH better this time. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

First, some background info. I opted to eliminate alcohol (except for Malört) during this training block minus a few VERY special occasions. I've allowed myself some alcohol while traveling this week, but I am back on the wagon to help boost my race performance. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

Or maybe we just choose not to read something that serves no greater purpose other than to benefit the author.
