The totalitarian attitude of today's Trumpist Republican Party is so extreme it nears the absolutism of Thomas Hobbes, the modern avatar of a nearly limitlessly powerful state. But even Hobbes says obedience & protection are a two-way street & that you may resist a state that threatens your life!
