They don’t call them the Great Lakes because they suck.

There will not be enough air traffic controllers in the tower at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, the FAA is warning.

Now on the seventh day of the government shutdown, the same scenario is playing out at FAA offices across the country, with ripple effects hitting flights almost everywhere.

I've written my analysis of today's grim Supreme Court oral argument in the conversion therapy case:

As far as the Court's concerned, imaginary medical uncertainty gives states the authority to hurt queer kids, and takes away states' authority to protect them

The Conservative Justices Don't Trust Any Science That Supports LGBTQ Kids
States that want to facilitate discrimination against LGBTQ people have the Court's blessing. States that want to protect LGBTQ people from discrimination do not.

Another Bluesky antagonist take I have is that “Data center bad” is a popular, but misguided trope.

If we can’t figure out how to power these things, what hope do we have to decarbonize heating, transportation, and heavy industry? These sectors combined will dwarf data center electricity demand.

I mean, I said it on Chris' podcast, and in our op-ed, and in my talk today and all my talks: if we can't do data centers with clean electricity we can forget about heat pumps and EVs and we won't get to zero emissions www.costasamaras.com/energy-ai-cl...

It’s not been discussed much, but when Taylor Swift says she “drinks that brown liquor” on the song Father Figure, it’s actually Malort.

You make it pretty easy for me to do so when you waltz around the internet talking about the awful manners your wife has.
stevenspoints.bsky.social
For what, accurately describing your wife?
stevenspoints.bsky.social
You will probably be shocked to believe that most people believe constantly recording conversations is, at best, incredibly rude
stevenspoints.bsky.social
Yeah because based on your own description she sounds like a bad person with no respect for the privacy of others:

I’m sorry but your wife sounds like a horrible person, dude.

Saw somebody refer to Chicago as “occupied” by the feds and I really want to push back on that. It’s not being occupied, it’s being terrorized. Occupation implies control; terrorizing is what you do when you can’t get control. It’s worth being a stickler on this because it’s an important difference

I admire the boldness of including Buffalo, which I will happily argue is spiritually Midwestern, but I would have to exclude it on geographic grounds

This is more accurate than 90% of maps you’ll see ostensibly claiming to describe the Midwest
Post from Bobby Big Wheel, in response to being asked which states are in the Midwest. In addition to the entire states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota, it includes the eastern portions of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska, northeast Kansas, northern Missouri, western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, and Buffalo NY.

This is essentially the same timeline on which the Oregon case proceeded, though? The Oregon TRO request was filed September 29th and a hearing was held on October 3rd. This request for TRO was filed October 6th and is set for oral argument October 9th.

If U.S. states have any degree of sovereignty, if there’s any states’ rights at all, it is the right not to be invaded by the armed forces of another U.S. state.
