I seem to recall some of the crossovers were well liked. It was just the central mini-series that people hated.

Oh, the art is bad, Mike Zeck or no! All those tiny figures! Shooter's ideal comic page would be just a bunch of medium shots with 2-inch high figures beneath huge word balloons. 🤦‍♂️

I genuinely don't hate it. I mean, I'm in no hurry to read it again, having read it last year, but it was kinda fun... mostly. I still haven't read Secret Wars II though. Maybe I should when I reach the Iron Man crossover....

... an hour just inking Doom's gun on this page from FF #84. And he would put details in his work like the fine lines radiating outwards from Reed's pupils that were barely visible on the final printed page.

Heh... I kind of like it with the proper colours. It's not as dramatic, maybe, but I never really understood the reasoning behind the all-red cover.
