What's sad is that only a minority percentage of Americans voted for him. Most Americans didn't vote, including ones that voted in 2020

Amazing how all these "analysts" are basing their price targets on vaporware

Hopefully a massive red year for $TSLA and $PLTR ... like down 50%+ or more from here

I quite Twitter a long time ago. I still have my FB account but I logged off my computer (so I need to log in to check it) and deleted the app on my phone. I still have IG on my phone but I don't use it much...it's so full of ads that I can't even discern what's a real post anymore so using it sucks

Who could've predicted this

Overall, I've cut back on my use of some of the big tech monopolies, but completely avoiding them can be highly impractical. Hopefully in 2026 and beyond companies like @proton.me can improve the alternatives to give us consumers more choices /end

T-Mobile is my phone service provider, and I don't like some of the actions they've taken as a company, but my wife works for them so if I were to switch providers it would cost us a bunch of money as we get a pretty huge discount on service. So again a case where purity isn't practical /11

That said, again purity isn't completely possible here since Qwant will draw some results from Bing /10
January 1, 2026 at 5:57 PM
I use @qwant.bsky.social for my search over Google or @microsoft.com Bing, which has been really good. There's only some minor details that I miss (e.g., if you asked for a unit conversion in Bing like 1 inch to cm, it would automatically show it to you vs. having to go to a site to do it) /9

I use an Android phone, but there's not really a lot of alternative options out there. I'm generally not a fan of Apple's ecosystem, although if Google pushes Gemini too hard I may end up going the iphone route. Again, another case where purity just isn't practical. /8

Obviously I still use a @microsoft.com Windows computer, but again purity isn't possible, as most software I use doesn't have alternative OS support. I do turn off all the Copilot functions. I've also switched to @libreoffice.bsky.social . That's been fine aside from some very minor UI details. /7
January 1, 2026 at 5:57 PM
I switched to @vivaldi.com for my browser. This is the case where purity isn't possible, because Vivaldi is based off the Chrome kernel, but they don't push LLMs and I prefer Vivaldi to @mozilla.org Firefox which has been starting to push LLMs. /6

That said, @proton.me drive still needs a lot of work, like with photos/videos, with some pretty big inconveniences (e.g., you won't see thumbnails on your desktop unless you download them, which can make desktop browsing difficult as it's a pain if you're doing video editing which I do). /5
January 1, 2026 at 5:57 PM
I also like how I can take the 3 TB @proton.me drive family plan and allocate the storage as I see fit, vs. getting 1 TB per family member (6 TB total) with @microsoft.com which you couldn't reallocate (and thus had to pay more just for more storage for myself). /4

@proton.me 's mail services are awesome, their password manager is outstanding, and their VPN is great. There are some details that I miss (for example, Proton calendar alerts don't pop up as alert windows in Windows desktop like Outlook did), but they are minor inconveniences. /3
January 1, 2026 at 5:57 PM
Disgusted with Google and @microsoft.com cozying up to Trump, and with their huge push for LLMs, I ditched Google Drive and the Onedrive/Office Suite in favor of @proton.me 's suite. Overall it's been a good switch, with some advantages and disadvantages /2

At some point all the gamblers and heavy retail buyers will get hosed. House of cards needs to collapse at some point
