Long Meg, a witch turned to stone, stands next to her many stony-hearted daughters (or, alternatively, her lovers or her fellow witches). If you break bits off her, she will bleed. A wonderful stone decorated with rock art, she marks the direction of winter solstice sunset. #StandingStoneSunday

Lincoln’s Newport Arch was built by the Romans in the 3rd century and is still very much in use by vehicles today, some 1,800 years later- this is pretty amazing!

Crikey it's #HillfortsWednesday 🥳

...& 2 years this week since 'Hillforts of Iron Age Wales' launched with Logaston Press 🛖🎂

It had to be reprinted a couple of months later after being featured on BBC Wales News 🎥

Hopefully the book has helped everyone discover the hillforts of Cymru/Wales! 🍻

At Michaelmas, the people of Iona used to race their horses around the Sithean Mòr (big fairy mound) – probably an old animal-blessing ritual. There seems to have been a prehistoric cairn at the top of the hill but it's long gone. This is also the mound on which St Columba discoursed with angels!

Lochbuie stone circle. Nine granite megaliths shape a circle, close to the shoreline in the shadow of Ben Buie on the Isle of Mull. Late Neolithic/early Bronze Age #StandingStoneSunday
