MN State Fair crop art 2025 thread:

1. This year, the Minneapolis Institute of Art sponsored two prizes, so there were lots of entries inspired by fine art. These are the two winners:

#cropart #seedart #mnstatefair
My Chagall Dream by Jeanne Morales of Minneapolis— a woman in a gown appears to fly over Minneapolis landmarks like First Ave, the state fair giant slide, the Hook and Ladder, in seeds and grains, some painted. Ceci n’est pas un corn dog by Amy & Steve Saupe of Saint Paul. A corn dog and French text (this is not a corn dog, after Magritte, in small natural colored seeds

"Black people are tired. Not metaphorically tired—actually tired. The kind of tired that turns every group chat into a mix of gallows humor and emotional triage."

I write about white ignorance and how exhausting it is to hear white ppl insist "this isn't who we are, when it's ALWAYS who we've been.
White People’s Performative Ignorance Is Exhausting—Opinion
Disbelief over authoritarianism in America isn’t a cutesy personality trait. It’s a confession: You haven’t been paying attention.

That time when Clive was floofy and stripey
Clive, a cream and tan doodle with floofy hair and a pink nose, standing by a white picket fence that has sunlight shining through the slats onto the deck and onto Clive too

Many unusual birds on walkies today!

(We also saw the chickens, but they’re always there so I forgot to take a pic)
Clive, a shaved cream and tan doodle with pink nose, and Felix, a dark brown doodle with silvery highlights, on leash on a sidewalk. Clive is looking at me and Felix is looking at half a dozen turkeys in between some bushes in the yard next to us. Clive noticed the turkeys More turkeys on this side of the street! Clive and Felix don’t care one whit about this flock of plastic flamingoes in a yard

Me, chatting with the help desk because I waited too long to renew my password while I was trying to come up with one I liked as much. (I now have a quickly thought up mediocre password for the next 3 months.)

Choose your direction wisely (on Ayd Mill)
A yellow diamond sign at a split in the road with black arrows pointing down to the left and right. There is graffiti on the left arrow that says “Dem” and on the right says “Rep”. There is also a graffiti on a nearby no right turn sign but I can’t make it out

We went across the river for a Tour de Minneapolis: Eat Street Crossing, Litt Pinball (not picture), Sebastian Joe’s, Let it be house
View of the patio from the open window of the bar at Eat Street Crossing Two bowls of ramen from Staff Meeting on a pine table A cinnamon ice cream cone with the sun going down behind it on a street full of detour and road construction signs A 2 and a half story beige house with reddish brown trim. The roof over the front porch is famous for being on the cover of Replacements’ album Let It Be. It’s easy to tell this is the house because Let It Be is painted on one of the risers on the front steps

Also is that a speed thing? They want you to slow down, which you need to do if you want to read the fancy font. I’m sure that’s it 😀

I finally recovered from Riot Fest and I realized I haven’t posted all the crop art pics from the State Fair yet! I’ll try to post some more this weekend. Anyway, you should check out the Lambrini Girls if they come through your town:

Clive, after being super chill about no mom walkies since June, is now demanding them after one day of me back to almost normal post surgery. I guess it’s a fair trade. And, hey, I found a cool new little free library after we stopped at the best one (with treatos).
