I'm Aly! Mostly, I like to talk about video games, and am an avid fan of RPGs and otome games.

I work FT in public sector finance, but localization is my passion. I had the very fortunate opportunity to be a loc editor for the Switch port of Tokyo Xanadu eX+! And hoping there will be more to come!
The main cast of Tokyo Xanadu standing at the in-game location of Sunshine Road. From left to right, primary cast members Yuuki, Mitsuki, Kou, Asuka, Shio and Sora are featured. A screen shot from Tokyo Xanadu eX+'s ending credits. On the left side is the staff roll, with a pink arrow pointed toward my name in the Editor section, alongside an inserted image of a chibi Shio. On the right side is an image of party member Rion in her idol attire. She is surrounded by the other members of her idol group, SPiKA, though they are not in focus. A screenshot from the Switch release of Tokyo Xanadu eX+. Shio is standing at the Bridge Underpass, with his hand curled up in a fist and an angry expression. The dialogue box reads, "I'll beat thr stupid out of you, since Kazuma's not here to do it himself!" A screenshot from the Switch release of Tokyo Xanadu eX+. Rion is facing away from the camera to look at Kou. Kou is sitting with his arms folded. The dialogue box from Kou reads, "I was so wrapped up in my own problems that I didn't even consider what the people around me were dealing with."

I regret to inform everyone this has to be my song of the year because I have listened to it approximately a million times and every time it comes up on my playlist, I feel compelled to listen to it 7 more times

I love this song SO much

I just have a lot of thoughts and passions, and occasionally I spit out a good thread with my big opinions
straylize.bsky.social
I hold it against nobody but it's sincerely so funny when I make a rare good thread and people follow me for it... and then unfollow me within a week because I am actually just a serial yapper and a bundle of chaotic thoughts at all times

sorry to disappoint, this is the yapper zone

it's still one of my all-time favorites for a reason! (probably partially because of it being one of the first games I played in jp and understood). I have such a soft spot for Rebirth, too!
straylize.bsky.social
i didn't think that would take two hours but i had to fight for my life reformatting the memory card and then re-importing the save i've been moving from computer to computer for years because i didn't think i'd go this long without playing it again.

imagine if game was... accessible...
straylize.bsky.social
MY FAVORITEST BOYE..... not that i'm doing the playthrough YET but i am now READY to see HIM!!!
straylize.bsky.social
crying into my hands and begging bamco to get this remastered so it can actually be accessible and convenient to play 😭

pov: you spend two hours locating your old iso dumps and bending the emulator to your will because you don't know where your upscaler is and don't really want to set your dying jp ps2 back up, anyway

but also now i am ready! i also regret to inform everyone i still know stahn's dialogue verbatim...

begging devs to stop putting stuff in their games that doesn't even fit into the design they created. don't give me platforming sections without any real movement tech to accomodate it, but also don't make the platforming straight ASS
straylize.bsky.social
spent exactly 4 seconds on them and i feel like i'm gonna vom. the lack of accessibility on this is kind of insane
straylize.bsky.social
yeah ok. the moving platforms are also immediately nauseating, i will not be partaking in this nonsense
straylize.bsky.social
it would probably help if the game wasn't whiffling 30% of my jumps or just making me slide right off the log in the most inconsistent way possible. like this is just poorly designed because the physics aren't built for it
straylize.bsky.social
if i am being reminded of anything in tod2's dungeon design, you are doing something wrong as the world's number 1 hater of that game's dungeon design
straylize.bsky.social
it reminds me of this one part of tod2 where you have to cross a bunch of gross fleshy platforms but falling off them is easy. except in that game, if you fail too many times, the game just goes "wow, you suck" and finishes it for you
straylize.bsky.social
whoever designed this ass platforming parkour minigame... i just wanna talk... because it controls like dogshit in a game that is not really centered around precision platforming
straylize.bsky.social
bamco games making this exact joke will never not be funny to me

there are a million reasons why i love the kratos route and this dumb dialogue is just one of them

It’s boiling in October because you’re using ChatGPT to write your emails, Janice.

(one day i will also finish codecia and release that, but it's my passion project, and with a lot of the themes the story routes are tackling, i don't... know that this would be the climate to release it anyway. so i'm fine with taking my time to write it, even if it takes another 10 years)
straylize.bsky.social
i moved away from both art and coding as i got a little older, and i definitely settled much more comfortably into writing. i'm still glad i got at least one game credit to my name, because that still feels like living out a childhood dream coming true. hopefully there will be more opportunities!

reading that article about reiko kodama has me thinking about how when i was a kid, my dream career path went from wanting to be a fashion designer to wanting to be a game developer.

i am still passionate about both fashion and games! though obviously my career path didn't QUITE take me that way

I wrote a long article about Rieko Kodama, her career at Sega, the evolution of her company, the games she worked on (including some canceled games and/or games for which she is not credited), the status of women and working conditions in the video game industry, etc.

Counterclockwise from top left: Rieko Kodama, Alis and Lutz from Phantasy Star, Sonic in a maze, Alex Kidd and his motorbike next to Flicky on a waterfront pier, Joe Musashi and his dog near the Statue of Liberty facing a skyline, the three playable characters from Golden Axe seen from behind on the edge of a cliff, and one of the flying ships from Skies of Arcadia.
