Yeah me too. The buttons look like buttons again! You can reach more stuff from the bottom of the phone! Compared to the last few years it’s a triumph.

No idea how he was closing a tab in one tap before, I’ve always needed two.

In bottom mode you can tap the tabs button or in either mode you can swipe up on the url bar to see all your tabs. Then tap “x” (or swipe left) to close one. Two taps, same as the old version.

(But I’m using Compact. I like the minimalist controls and I can still quickly hit all the hidden buttons and change tabs with single-swipe gestures.)
