While I Belong in the Sun (With You) has been on hiatus, I’ve also indulged in working on a oneshot… here’s a couple previews of that for #WIPWednesday
Damián's phone lights up with a notification where he'd left it on his station, and the chime it makes in tandem draws his attention to the screen because it's not the sound he was expecting to hear. The particular ding his cell makes is for an application he downloaded a few days ago when he'd arrived in Tallo; one of those apps designed for 'meeting people ' as one of the employees who thought they were having a discreet conversation had put it to another. They likely hadn't even known Damián was listening in, or perhaps they might have given him some better warning. Everything in the about section for the man named 'Davrin' on his screen indicated that the elf took care of himself. He liked hunting and hiking, traveling and going to the gym, and was, apparently, a 'proud cat dad'. A few of his pictures even feature a large grey and black feline with a name-tag that reads Assan. Davrin was interested in 'short-term relationships' and 'hook-ups'; entirely upfront with his reasoning for being on the application in the first place. He was always on the move because of his job, and therefore not looking to settle down. The phone in Damián's hand chimes again, this time letting him know that he has a message waiting to be read, and when he clicks over to that page of the app, he finds Davrin's name at the top of the list with an unread marker on it.

Bad! He’s had two relationships in his life, and Imma put the details in pictures with a bit of a trigger warning? It’s sad stuffs. 🥲
The early relationship with Leone Arainai started when he was 17. He was young and gullible, and the older man preyed on that. Basically used Damián as a convenience thing, while Damián thought he actually cared. This went on for far too long; almost 5 years because their jobs as Crows made it all too easy to hide the truth. Damián eventually found out that his ‘partner’ was engaged to be married and they had a blow up over it. In the aftermath, Leone used his connections to spread some gross gossip about Damián, ruining the younger man’s reputation. The current relationship is with Illario Dellamorte. It started out as a friends with benefits thing, before the events of Veilguard. They were starting to get very close in the wake of Lucanis’ ‘death’ and Damián fell for him very fast. Then out of nowhere Illario dropped all contact between them. When Illario locked up Caterina a year later, Damián was the one to find her and report back to Viago & Teia. Damián’s bestie happens to be Rook, and he begged her not to let Lucanis kill Illario for his coup. He believes that what Illario did wasn’t that bad, especially for how the Crows are, and it was done to help more than harm. In the aftermath of the war with the gods, Damián and Illario have a tenuous relationship that mostly derives from both of them not wanting to be lonely. It’s not perfect, and they bicker a lot, but they stick to one another like glue.
