We're an urbanist group, focused on safer streets, giving citizens more options, and creating a more financially responsible city.

Help us support bus lanes on Bank St: strongtownsottawa.ca/Bank
It is almost like we said exactly this would happen...

How many more injuries and deaths on our roads do we need?

These aren't just needed in front of schools, all of our residents deserve safety, and children don't only walk in front of schools!

Reminder we have an e-mail template on our site that you can use for inspiration to contact your councillor!

Here are some other ways you can get involved too. If you're interested in delegating, don't hesitate to reach out, we'd love to help you with it!

Thank you to everyone who came to our monthly meeting last night to work on our push for Bus Lanes on Bank Street. What a great turnout!

If you haven't been, anyone is welcome to join us for our monthly meetings! You can find info for the next one on our website, strongtownsottawa.ca

Here's how packed the QED was yesterday during the lead-up of the Charge game.

All of the occupants of these cars could have comfortably fit into a single bus.

There's no need to force everyone to get here by car, it doesn't scale and leads to frustration for everyone.

We need 24/7 bus lanes.

Great session of outreach today ahead of the charge game at Lansdowne for bus lanes on Bank!

Lots of people taking the 6 and the 7 to come support this fantastic team! Imagine if they had a reliable and efficient way to get here without having to sit in traffic or try to find parking!

Pretty much sums it up. In no other part of our lives would this make sense, yet it's a regular occurrence in how we plan our cities.

These traffic cameras are a great tool to see how inefficient cars are on Bank Street, and how much extra traffic parking adds.

This single intersection is clogged with a total of what is probably 15-20 people in cars. All while a bus with easily over 2x that sits stuck in traffic.

This wonderful piece, about new incremental housing going up, written by Sharon Nyangweso was shared in our group. We really think this couldn't have been said better.

We cannot lock our neighbourhoods into stasis if we want them to thrive. We need to be adaptable and allow for incremental growth.

Another wonderful monthly meeting in the wraps! Great to see so many come out despite the poor weather last night!

We discussed where we've come over the last couple years as a group, our plans for 2026, the upcoming municipal election, and more!

Our next meeting is in January, info on our site!

We've worked together with our partners at the Peoples Official Plan coalition to touch on a very important aspect of our yearly budget process, that of affordability.

We strongly recommend reading the letter, and providing your thoughts to your councillor!

What a great day to go out and chat to transit users about their experience with the system. Thanks to the members who came out!

We're encouraging people to contact their local councillors in favour of bus lanes on bank! We have a template you can use!

In case anyone needed a better visual to show why the bus lane is "empty" and the car lane is "filled".

It's pretty simple. Cars are realllyyyy bad at moving large amounts of people.

They're definitely great for specific uses! But to rely on them for every single trip is where we have failed.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our monthly social. We had to get an extra table compared to most months, guess that's a great sign!

It's nice to have casual meetups to keep things light! We also have our regular monthly workshop coming up, check our website for info!

As you go shopping today and notice all the extra parking spaces--on what is supposed to be the busiest shopping day of the year--remember that all that parking comes at a cost!

Nathan Fung at the CBC reached out to talk about Bill 60.

As you can imagine, we're not very happy at all with this bill. It removes local autonomy, will make our streets more dangerous, and it will make them more congested.

This is irresponsible governing.

At Strong Towns Ottawa we're always looking for ways to expand our options when it comes to housing!

That's why we wrote a letter in response to ERO 025-1100 in support of reducing lot size minimums to help support more diverse housing types!

This will help combat our housing shortage

This morning, our board member Etienne Lefebvre spoke about why Bill 60 must be opposed. The bill strips away local decision-making, forces fiscally irresponsible planning, and locks our city into a dangerous, car-centric status quo.

Thank you to @bikeottawa.bsky.social and everyone who came out!

With quite the busy week we forgot to post about the People's Summit we were invited to, Nov 1st. Tons of people were interested in seeing our property tax visuals, long-term city financials, hearing about bus lanes on bank, or the Ottawa Urbanism Book Club.

Such a great energy to push for better!

With all of the talk about Lansdowne 2.0, and improving transit access to the location, this is the perfect opportunity to get fully dedicated 24/7 bus lanes, not just during "peak" hours.

Delays for buses are almost constant throughout the day.

Lansdowne 2.0 passes 15-10.

As a group dedicated to financial transparency and smart investments in community infrastructure, we had concerns around the reporting process and special financial treatment given to Lansdowne 2.0, as well as the lack of tangible transit improvements.

Great seeing all of the passion from our wonderful members! Nothing beats talking about city politics, our budget, better transit funding, and more, on a Thursday evening!

Can't wait to see what comes of this at future meetings.

What a wonderful turnout for our first ever monthly meeting, where we discussed preparing for the 2026 Budget, and how to give delegations!

Look forward to our upcoming monthly meetings to get involved if you couldn't attend this one! Thank you to St. Peter's Lutheran Church for the space! #Ottawa

We're part of a group of organizations taking part in a rally this Friday, 8:30 am, against Lansdowne 2.0.

If you're against the cuts to affordable housing, the lack of public transit improvements, the huge amount of debt that will be taken on and reduce spending for other priorities, join us!

Interested in learning about the 2026 budget, how to delegate, and key topics to touch on?

Join us for our first ever monthly workshop! We'll be covering issues like long-term infrastructure gaps, transit funding, and more!
