"But we must compete with the oth-"

That's just it. You don't. You are THE public broadcaster. No other body shares your mission. Why add to the noise?

The BBC has an opportunity to say "you've heard all the breathless gossip - tune in at 6pm for the facts". To bring light rather than heat.

Yes, I must admit this suggestion gave me a real buzz this morning. 🤓🤓🤓
(24-hour rolling news is just so shallow, yet recently the BBC has scaled back things like Newsnight, that did depth well)

Just finished the latest episode of QR, and may I be the first to nominate Mr Andreou as the new BBC Head of News? Alex, your idea to have the corporation abandon its frantic and frazzling rolling 24hr news output in favour of a more poised and measured approach hits several nails on the head.

It's crazy what small factors history pivots on. Had a few more Republican senators developed a backbone - or had Mitch McConnell acted upon HIS OWN WORDS! - DJT would probably be in jail now, rather than the White House. I wonder what Stanley & Tominey think about that?

‘I’ve no idea.’

Yep - that’s Farage & reform in a nutshell.

Not just the papers! They could (perhaps) be forgiven for doing things to sell papers, given that their survival depends on it. The thing I find appalling is the way that BBC journos and interviewers fawn over Farage. If they gave 50% of the scrutiny to his policies they give Labour, he'd be screwed

He certainly sounds a lot more dangerous than the retired vicar who got arrested the other day for showing support for Palestinians!

Just had to check. I've just spent half an hour on Twitter and that's my fill for a week. My nerves couldn't take any more.

This feels like a (relative) breath of fresh air, even reading Marie's comments...

I'm deeply hoping you're being sarcastic!

It did make me smile to myself when I heard Joanna Coles, host of The Daily Beast podcast, refer to the senator as Anthony Padilla 😁
