It’s nice in theory but doesn’t work in practice; The LibDems did this in the UK alongside the Tories as a coalition and they’ve never recovered—voters felt betrayed.

This is a bit of a Boy Who Cried Wolf situation where I think there's high-potential for a serious conflict here, but they've clashed so frequently, and typically in such a limited way, that most will be shocked if (when) this erupts.
