There are no wild places left on Earth. Our choices are now learn to survive WITH nature, or...don't survive.
The HOA has finally put together a "green team", and today we started tackling the invasive plants taking over the neighborhood common areas! #invasiveplantremoval #nativeplants

My oak forest has an okra understory. Current view as I'm planting next year's garlic! #MixedUse #FoodForest #GrowYourOwnFood #GardenSky

I can confirm this works. I've been feeding my crows on my daily walks for a couple years and they know me, hop along with me, land right next to me, sometimes even brush me with their wings. They also follow me until at times I get 30+ crows flying after me, which makes me look like a total badass
As you are getting to know them, don't watch them or the food you've offered. Drop or place a peanut and then walk on like Lot fleeing the doomed city of Sodom, never looking back. This reassures them that it's not a trap and that you don't mean them harm.

Is my lowbush blueberry seriously trying to produce a second crop this year? So bizarre. #permaculture #nativeplants

Went to a native plant sale for fringed bleeding heart and may possibly have impulse-bought hay-scented fern and low bush blueberry as well. 🤷‍♀️ #nativeplants #growyourownfood

Fucking… don’t. Don’t fuck with wild animals. Even if they look fine. Even if they’re “friendly.” Especially if they’re friendly. Observe them from a polite distance and if you *must* feed them, for fucksake don’t do it by hand. You are not built different and rabies IS incurably fatal.
Six deaths from rabies have been reported over the last 12 months in the U.S., the highest number in years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
'They would never have known:' New warnings about rabies outbreaks as cases rise in the U.S.
The CDC's rabies team says it's tracking 15 different likely outbreaks from New York to Oregon.

I went on an invasive vine-ripping rampage today and uncovered two American holly saplings and two oak saplings the deer haven't found yet! Win! #nativeplants #woodyplants

The deer are so overpopulated and used to human presence that I can walk right up with the leashed hound in tow and they barely look up. #animals #mammals

The photo really doesn't capture it, but I am not happy that this hazy, wildfire-tainted air is becoming an expected part of summer. Virginia is not wildfire country, dang it!

I know I mostly post photos of the native plants in my yard, but we do grow plenty of food for the humans on our little .2 acres as well! #growyourownfood #permaculture

You should *hear* the dog going off (through the window) at this little skink. Pretty sure it's one of the crew that live under our porch. Kiddo loves the babies with their electric blue tails! #naturesky #reptiles #backyardwildlife

Too slow to get good photos of the garden visitors lately, but there's plenty for them to eat, and for the neighbors to enjoy looking at! #WildflowerWednesday #gardensky

It's been extremely rainy here, so the HOA is probably not thrilled about the lack of lawn mowing. The birds are loving it though, especially around our (covered) porch! #birds

This year's fox kits are getting so big! This one's almost as big as Mama now. Almost time for them to be finding their own territories... #redfox #mammals #backyardwildlife

Chelsea chop time for the front bed so the fall-blooming asters and goldenrod don't completely hide the currently-blooming Black-Eyed Susan and Wild Bergamot! #nativeplants #frontyard #gardening #wildflowers

This little fledgling is super cute with its lingering bit of baby fluff. Man is it ever a loud little neighbor though! #birds

Contractors killed one of my apple trees and 80% of my tomatoes and peppers this week. But the pomegranate is blooming, so I've got that going for me... #permaculture #growyourownfood
