36 more boots-on hiking miles since I last posted for #nhs1000miles
Most of these were in Madagascar, with @kitzingercelia.bsky.social - including in a UNESCO World Heritage site with incredible limestone formations known as 'tsingy' (pics below).

This article manages to name her husband before it names… her.
Article reads:
Woman named as Archbishop of Canterbury in historic first

The 63-year-old archbishop-designate is married to Eamonn Mullally, with whom she has two children. Originally from Woking in Surrey, she was the UK's chief nursing officer from 1999 to 2004.

Sadly, we cut short our Madagascar trip (on UK Foreign Office and local tour company advice). Even though Madagascar is so dependent on tourist income, it's sad to see other tour companies advising that tourism in Madagascar is unaffected - absolutely not our experience
nytimes.com
The president of Madagascar dissolved his government on Monday in response to days of fiery youth-led protests denouncing the government's failure to provide stable electricity and water. Nearly two dozen people were killed in protests and dozens more were injured, the UN said. nyti.ms/3IOdkXF

Lemur spotting in rainforest at Andasibe. Will post #nhs1000miles next week. Due to violent protests in Madagascar, UK govt advice is to leave right away - so we’re on our way home, sadly losing half our trip. Wishing a peaceful and just solution for the Malagasy people

Thanks Penny! Thrilled to be the 3rd member of the class of '24 to be featured in Cumbria Life: really highlights the contribution of the Cumbrian Lit MA to the local community & beyond. And testament to the excellent teaching, of course! @cumbriauni.bsky.social @kirawelland.bsky.social Jade Cookson

Exciting news: I've got a 3-page article on the Grasmere Dialect Plays in the Oct 2025 issue of 'Cumbria Life' magazine! Really hoping this will bring them to a wider audience @drpennybradshaw.bsky.social @countrystride.bsky.social
For more on the Plays, head over to @grasdialectplays.bsky.social

19 low-level hiking miles for me in a (very) soggy week here in the #LakeDistrict. Pics below (need a click) are across Bassenthwaite Lake towards Skiddaw (in cloud) - taken this morning from Sale Fell. #NHS1000miles @kitzingercelia.bsky.social

19.5 hiking miles for me this week - mostly at beginning of week, as last few days have been both soggy and windy. Pic from a quiet hike above Ennerdale on Bank Holiday Monday. #nhs1000miles #LakeDistrict @kitzingercelia.bsky.social

Celebrating our 22nd Wedding Anniversary (a couple of days late) tonight! @kitzingercelia.bsky.social
We got married in Canada in 2003 - 11 years before it was lawful in England & Wales. We lost our marriage equality case in the High Court in 2006 - but we're on the right side of history!
Cheers!
Celia and Sue with cocktails (Sue's is gin and ginger; Celia's is non-alcoholic cucumber and elderflower). And two pics of yummy vegetarian food - including a local damson souffle

Totally brilliant performance of "Pride & Prejudice" in Keswick tonight: one of the best productions I've ever seen @tbtlake.bsky.social. Towed perfect line between faithfulness to the novel & contemporary humour. All cast strong + doubling up of characters v impressive. Kudos to all involved!
