Permanently abandoning reality means permanently surrendering your own ability to act to ensure the conditions that enable your fantasy (or endless pleasure experience or whatever) are met. It requires absolute trust that someone else will keep the lights on and the show going.

The insurmountable disadvantage that fantasy has against reality is that fantasy can only exist built upon a real substrate (the physical brain that holds the thoughts, the physical computer that generates the simulation). And all that is real is vulnerable to disruption.
