Fair point I can only share my personal experience. I have no idea what it’s like for those that are uninsured or low income other than I know it’s going to be bad. If I was in that position I would like to think that murder is still not a solution but I don’t know for sure.

I think those should also not be glorified. Nobody wins a war just like nobody wins a fight. I get that it sounds naive and reality is that these things are unavoidable and sometimes necessary. I’m just advocating we change how we respond when they happen.

2000 is my out of pocket expense after insurance. Without it would have been 40k 😭

we cannot glorify murder in our society that's how end up with more violent crime. I get the hate for the CEO but evil cannot justify evil. I'm saying this as someone actively recovering from a $2k surgery

Would you also consider euthanasia as murder?

For a stronger focus on humanity I would recommend "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson

- The incentive structure for large scale systems and organizations needs to be set up to discourage binary thinking. Ultimately having multiple sides to conflict results in more common ground.

- If a story you’ve been told is too simple and avoids complexity then it is not representing the whole truth. Conflicts are always messy and contain an array of opinions.

- There are always conflict entrepreneurs; Those who stoke the flames for their own benefit. It’s important to always sniff them out and avoid engaging with them.

My main take aways:

- Having conflict is unavoidable and is what makes humans great. Our ability to form identity groups with millions of others is unprecedented in the animal kingdom. In dire situations having a singular enemy is actually unifying.

Ripley does a fantastic job explaining how conflict arises, the good and bad kinds and how to pull yourself out when you eventually fall into it. She describes High Conflict, a form of conflict filled with high emotions, zero sum thinking, and dehumanization.
