I'm not a very fancy user or anything. I just ask it to write plans and then follow them step by step

yeah, there's some tweaking at the margins, but the kinds of substantial merge conflicts we're talking about here cannot really be resolved through any deterministic algorithm
January 11, 2026 at 6:57 PM
Well it's not hard to understand, anyway. It does require some expert knowledge to answer

my first response was a polite "I actually worked on these systems professionally for many years" but they decided to double down. I don't often like asking shibboleths like this, but this is both a question that's not hard to answer, and directly relevant to merge conflicts

Oh it was just someone saying they were better at git than I am because they didn't need an LLM to resolve their merge conflicts

I don't think it was great. I think Kat acting in bad faith towards me was quite a bit worse.

The map IS the territory. Borges in shambles
January 11, 2026 at 2:59 AM
it really do be like that tho
January 11, 2026 at 2:57 AM
wish I had a pithy answer here. One thing that comes to mind: if you decide to adopt an LLM, ask it all the technical questions that you feel you'd be embarrassed to ask another human. There were so many things that fell into that bucket for me

they added 🩷, 🩵 and 🩶 in Unicode 15.0, and I felt 🩶 was exactly correct

I happen to be a trans woman of color too. Ah well
January 11, 2026 at 12:07 AM
Yeah this is where I am too, at least for now. The amount of stuff I've been able to do has gone way, way up in the last 3-6 months
January 10, 2026 at 11:48 PM
oh hmm the link is broken for me

This took around 5 context windows to do total, the change was +15k/-13k loc overall (it was a giant refactor). There is a lot of deterministic validation around this process that was built separately, and gave us confidence that a nondeterministic algorithm could tackle this successfully

I am definitely a little sensitive about this at the moment because of the personal targeting. My partner actually pulled me off the phone last night and told me to log off for the weekend. (It lasted 12 hours, sorry, sorry)

God I need a vacation lmao
January 10, 2026 at 9:36 PM
talk about this in person some time? ❤️

💗 was definitely luckier than you, in that while my parents were under tremendous financial stress growing up (my mom used to give me daily updates on our bank balance) food was not something we had to worry about. (Any kind of meat was a treat though, since veg food is much cheaper in India)
