Oscar Shortlist: A FRIEND OF DOROTHY is a Charming Tale of Friendship
Discovery of unlikely friendships is a staple of cinema. These pairings can yield emotional gold, which serves as the basis for “A Friend of Dorothy.” Pulling its title from the famous euphemism for queer and gay men, director Lee Knight charts a heartwarming tale. While "A Friend of Dorothy" is not a particularly challenging story on its face, thanks to a pair of very good performances, it overcomes its limitations.

We’re fans of #PeopleWeMeetOnVacation, a lovely and funny rom-com. When you’ve got a solid director like Brett Haley working on #EmilyHenry material, you’re bound for greatness. Bader proves My Lady Jane was no fluke. #PWMOV

As the best film lists roll out, remember: if you don't know some of the films on the list, that's not a slight against you. That's an invitation to discover something someone else loved. Don't take someone else's lists as an affront to the films you love. Both can be valid.

There are so many Diane Keaton performances to remember, but a lot of people haven't seen Reds, and A) my God, see it, it is a masterpiece and B) her performance as Louise Bryant is one of the bravest, toughest, least sympathy-courting pieces of work by an American actress in the last 50 years.
