The moral of the story is that there are jobs for artists, real actual careers, a lot of them. If that is what you are good at, pursue it.

All of us had tried pursuing different fields (tech, publishing, manufacturing) because “everybody knows” that being an artist isn’t a real job. And all of us realized that we were miserable and needed to do what we were good at instead… and we all succeeded!

Last year, I was on a conference panel with 2 other creative directors. We were asked about our career trajectories, and though we were from different places, they were surprisingly similar.

Housing is definitely worse now, even if most all else is undeniably better. Personally it doesn’t shock me people weight owning a home (American dream) higher than cheap electronics and superior food options. Which is a distillation. Even air quality is better. But still, people want to own a home
