I want this committee to know the pain ICE is causing—the children who may never see their parents again, the families going hungry without breadwinners.

The communities I represent have been terrorized by ICE, and we need Congress to be a check on this abuse of power.

ICE is targeting people based on their skin color or the language they speak. They are violating residents’ rights every day.

Our Board of Supervisors has taken what steps we can to protect our residents. But we need help from Congress—that is why this hearing is so important.

I continue to be impressed by the peaceful community members who have organized themselves and are doing everything they can to report on ICE’s presence in our neighborhoods and share the stories of the many people who have been ripped away from their families.

This is the unified, countywide strategy we need so that, for the first time, all of us—County departments, the State, the VA, and our nonprofit partners—will be rowing in the same direction.

Because no one who served our country should be sleeping on our streets.

This motion calls for:

➡️ Closing the gaps in care for behavioral health & substance use
➡️ Improving data & accountability
