It's not even the Bible they're listening to but their own interpretation of it which they believe is correct because how could their interpretation of 2000 year old Aramaic words translated into 2000 year old Greek words translated into English be wrong??

Actually it's a real account with real people that has really been active since 2016 when 45 began his campaign against the National Parks.

What happens too when the people closest to these two are affected? Will they continue to do their job or turn on those they swore to protect?

I was about to argue, but you're right. It's only in wrestling with the ugly parts of our traditions together that we are able to grow. Thank you for reminding me of this. And reminding me that every tradition in this world has a dark side to it.

We need to stop obeying in advance. Trump has no power to pull funding from anyone. Congress has the power to do thst. Not Trump. I wish one of these orgs would call him out. He's a wanna-be authoritarian. Nothing more.

If you're going to dismiss people for their bad ideas than most historical characters are disqualified. Jefferson held slaves as did Washington. Most theologians were flaming bigots and antisemites. So where do you draw the line? When do their wrong ideas override their right ones?

But you asked what he wrote well. Well he's the first Xian to suggest Jewish law is for Jews and not Gentiles, he invented the Law/Gospel contrast, wrote Bondage of the Will, and pretty much invented the separation of church and state in his idea of 2 kingdoms. He also translated scripture in German

Luther wrote On Jews and their Lies at the end of his life while suffering from gout and incredible pain. That doesnt excuse it. Only puts it into context. The Lutheran church I'm part of has rejected this treatise.

You have to be selective quoting anyone. They all have their biases and problems.
As a Lutheran I quote Luther. But I also try to show that he was a manic depressive man who got a couple things right and a whole lot wrong.

I love the Ren Fest mostly because it's the one place where I can feel normal and not out of place... but its not a realistic picture of the Renessaince, which was marked by the expelling of the Jews and Muslims from Spain, thus ending the Golden Age there.
Plus, 75% of the folks would be dead.

"Pray for those who persecute you."
Maybe that's why it doesn't say things will change. Only that by being kind you will bring "burning coals on their head."
Maybe we spend too much time focused on those who won't get it and too little heaping our love on those who do.

What?!? I seriously didn't believe such a thing existed anymore. Like... it doesn't exist on Twitter nor in most ELCA conferences or synods. I am beyond jealous you got to experience a genuine intellectual conversation.

Yeah when they argued theology they argued theology. The puny Calvinists today with their "heresy" tweets hold a candle to how THEY fought for their position.
Sadly I find more weight in most heretical positions than I do in the orthodox ones.

I love the story of Judith and the paintings of her make great illustrations of it.
I wish more people studied 1st and 2nd century Jewish writings more. They're freaking awesome! Especially Judith and Tobit.

I did too. Like I majored in philosophy so I know how to argue right but today on Twitter every argument ends with REPENT and not one takes existentialist postmodernism seriously. It's rather depressing.
