Please never take a job that requires making difficult decisions. Or do, and then learn why your criticism is short-sighted and asinine.

If you're going to continue to respond, please respond to what I actually write.
January 16, 2026 at 11:22 PM
I'm not seeing what that has to do with anything I wrote.

States have internal sovereignty, and the external sovereignty ceded to the federal government is defined in the tenth amandment. Without the tenth amendment, the states get their full sovereignty back.

Okay, then please get that information sent out to everyone, since you're clearly in charge of coordination.

Or do you think that general strikes just happen without any preparation or planning?
January 16, 2026 at 10:02 PM
Correct, I am saying the United States would end. The individual states would still exist, though, it'd be the "United" part that would end.
January 16, 2026 at 9:43 PM
I never said our system prevents tyranny. I said the Constitution would be moot, and it would. I said the nation as we know it would be over, and it would. Trump would lose all legitimacy, but he could still cause havoc.

Please respond to what I write, not to strawmen.

The Weimar Constitution and the US Constitution are two different things. See also: those arguing that Trump can cancel elections during war because Ukraine did.

US states are sovereign but grant authority to the federal government through the Constitution. No Constitution = no federal authority.

Bearing in mind that only citizens can vote and ICE has essentially zero authority over citizens, I'm not seeing what having ICE stationed at polling places would accomplish other than to divert their attention from kidnapping people.
January 16, 2026 at 4:35 AM
If the Constitution doesn't matter anymore then we aren't a nation anymore and Trump has no authority or power.

Just because the Constitution is being pissed on doesn't mean it ceased to exist.

Problem solved
January 16, 2026 at 4:16 AM
How? How is he going to cancel elections? Put some actual thought into this. What control does he have over the mechanisms that are in place to conduct elections?
January 16, 2026 at 4:10 AM
Just because a state has mail-in voting doesn't mean it's the only option. If he somehow tanks the mail system, I'll just drop my ballot off at a drop box.

MAGA-heavy rural districts would be most affected by interruptions in mail service.

here's what happens after house elections, which are conducted by each state and locality:

the state certifies the winner
the winners go to washington
they convene a new house
they choose a speaker

notice who isn't involved here? the president or the current speaker or the senate.

They seem to think that being the most irritating person you've ever met is a winning strategy

Progress takes work, but they can't be bothered to put in any real effort

You can skip the Dougie parts and miss nothing. I honestly kind of with I had myself.
January 15, 2026 at 12:26 AM
It does get better than that, and once it does get better, it highlights just how pointless those episodes with Dougie were.

The ending is incredible and episode 8 is a towering achievement, but the Return is essentially a great 6 hour show that takes 18 hours to watch.

You're having a conversation with yourself right now. You are still not listening. You're taking bits and pieces from what I'm saying without putting any thought whatsoever into it.

And calling me "my dude" is how you get blocked, asshole.

What war on protein? I've been eating more yogurt, lentils, and chickpeas than I ever used to.
January 13, 2026 at 5:58 AM
I don't give a fuck about Matt Yglesias. I'm talking about your neighbors. You do realize there's a real world outside of the internet, right?

You haven't actually responded to what I've said because you *aren't listening*

You're doing exactly what I'm saying is the problem in real time
January 13, 2026 at 5:55 AM
I absolutely do not mean debate. The idea of debate has become perverted to just being a dog and pony show where no one is listening to each other.

You could say harping, haranguing, lecturing, or any other word that essentially boils down to talking *at* people instead of *with* them.
January 13, 2026 at 5:43 AM
This is starting to feel exactly like "Defund the Police." What lessons can we take from that total failure and learn from it so we don't repeat it again?
January 13, 2026 at 2:57 AM
You'd think potential customers dying would at least have some kind of an effect on the cost to businesses
January 13, 2026 at 1:44 AM
I wish it weren't so but I absolutely agree, optics is key. I don't see any reason to focus on 47 days. Whatever amount of training they're getting clearly isn't enough, and we've got plenty of videos showing evidence of that. Just keep recording and showing the videos, it's working.
January 13, 2026 at 1:23 AM
Okay, keep harping on them, how is it working out for you? I will never understand the approach of "let's annoy people with our sanctimony until they do what I want" especially in a reality where those people will just start ignoring you instead of listening to you.
