Excited to share our latest work! We found transcription factor SPT6 and phosphorylated Pol II CTD help recruit U1 snRNP to elongating Pol II, allowing efficient co-transcriptional splicing.

Glad to be featured in the Editors’ Highlights!

“If you’re really curious about science, then you should do it.”

We recently caught up with David Barford, Group Leader in the LMB’s Structural Studies Division, to learn more about his career, what inspires him and his group’s research into kinetochore complexes.

Thank you, Claudio!!

Excited to share our new preprint on co-transcriptional splicing! U1 snRNP is recruited to RNA polymerase II through multiple interaction sites, with elongation factor SPT6 binding directly to the U1 snRNP protein.

Great work by my fantastic first PhD student Helen Zhang as a collaboration started with @anatv.bsky.social , with support from our lab manager Yuliya Gordiyenko and the amazing mass spec facility @mrclmb.bsky.social Tomos Morgan and @catfranco.bsky.social

Ever wondered how Pol II speed is controlled during productive elongation?
Our study reveals that the helicase RECQL5 triggers transcription braking, while the transcription-coupled DNA repair complex restores the elongation rate. #cryoEM #transcription
