Kurt Vonnegut wrote 100+ short stories.

In 1999, he revealed the secret to writing a good one.

Here are his 8 rules:

1. Don't waste your reader's time.
2. Give the reader a character to root for.
3. Every character should want something. Even if it's only a glass of water.

Dear library users – if your friends have published books, you'll be doing them a huge favour if you borrow those books when you see them, and request them when you can't.

I have books in the library system and would be delighted if you read one (or more!)

Read this for o' grade. More four and a half decades later I still think of it and refer to it often.
I received Flowers for Algernon as a Christmas present. It’s not a book I would have selected for myself, but I’m so grateful to have received it.

This tale of the glorification of intelligence over compassion and humanity is astounding. I have much to think about on this New Year’s Eve.

With Maxine distracted by Christmas and new neighbours, someone has managed to escape from the Cat Cafe...

Bumped into a film set in #Glasgow today. Massive road closures in the city centre. Didn't have the nerve to ask the guys what they were filming.

New writing project. 5k words in. 1 character with 3 different names - not as a plot device.

This is why 2nd drafts matter.
