Two small dilapidated structures of a long-ago homestead are situated in a mountain meadow. It is summer and the edges of the clearing are populated with pines and aspens. The structure on the left has only one wall remaining with the roof timbers collapsed on the floor. The other cabin is missing a door and part of the roof, but the walls are standing. Possible fire scars darken the front of the structure. In the foreground, what is now just a pile of rocks gives the impression of something that was at one time part of the homestead.

After sunset, quiet lake waters anchor the photo with a tall dead tree reaching up on the right. Near the top of the tree, an osprey has taken up the position from which he sleeps and hunts and feasts. Large green-lichen-covered rocks line the edge of a shallow stream in Kyoto. The center front rock features a distinctive natural zig-zag design over its entire surface. A few ferns peek out from between the rocks. The surface of the sandy-bottomed stream is still enough to reflect light from the sky.

I like the way the texture of this #rockface near #LakeChelan seems to become more like the texture of the #tree trunk as they lean closely together. Buddies for life. #WeekRforRock #AlphabetChallenge
A large rockface and the trunk of a tall rough-barked pine tree come together as they seem to lean into each other. The texture of the rockface, smoother and yellower on the side furthest from the tree, changes as it comes closer to the trunk. Where they meet, it appears that they are trying to mimic each other's look.

I deleted my FB acct, but kept some posts because they are a diary of sorts. I have thought of this post many times in the past 9 years, but never more than today after seeing the King T*/Jet video. What our children are learning from regime leaders is doing untold damage to our country. #NoKings

I despair that the person elected as our next president is someone who epitomizes the way I would NOT want myself or ANYONE else to be treated. I despair that America's children must read this outcome as a validation of language and behavior that would not be allowed in most homes and classrooms. I despair at the thought that decades of social progress might be rolled back to a time when life wasn't all that great for a lot of people. However, I realize that despair will do nothing to change today's reality, so I hope for better than I expect. And in the meantime, whenever and wherever I can, I will speak of tolerance, of love, of respect for people of all colors and creeds, because THAT is what makes America great.
