These days I also like to draw something rough with vector lines in a different program then shrink it down and and use the blurry, nearly indistinguishable pixel mess as a guide/reference for what shapes are actually readable while I draw the finished thing.

There was helpful/inspiring to me when I was pondering how to do game art specifically.
