Just to point out, Pam is also a nurse. I think we are on the same side at the end of the day. We want patients taken care of and people to be paid for their work.

I truly don’t feel that anyone has been disrespectful during this conversation. At the end of the day we are all on the same side.

I went through a strike vote after more than a year of bargaining. Before we could even give notice to strike there was mediation, a cooling off period and then the vote. We managed to avoid an actual strike.

I understand where you’re coming from, but I will never have sympathy for hospitals when it comes to this.

If nurses walk out and scabs refuse to take contracts the hospital will have no choice but to come back to bargain in good faith.

The hospital had created an environment that is not conducive to patients being cared for safely. The union has taken all the lengthy steps of bargaining and notifying the hospital of a strike. The hospital will have plenty of time to transfer patient elsewhere. This doesn’t happen overnight.

If you are perchance contemplating working a scab nursing contract while Kaiser nurses strike: consider not doing that. It undermines everything they are working to improve. Also, fuck scabs.

What’s the worst thing that can possibly happen in a NICU?

A missing laminator.
