Finally finished it, solder lines definitely could use some improvement but pretty happy with it overall

Yeah this seems wild in a ton of decks. Cheap levels really sell it.

Psudo-Bastion at cost (no heal, but ANY ltb is big). Gruul War chant for 2 more. Great recursion for just 1 more.

I think it'll be best in big reanimate style decks, where the sneak is actually a discount. Maybe esper blink too

Super excited for it, I built Ghost of Tsushima as Kamigawa or Kamigawa-adjacent Japan.deck and it just turned into esper ninjas and it honestly rules.

Pumped for some more tech even if sneak is a little less interesting than ninjutsu

Starting my foray into stained glass.

Tried to stick pretty close to the original black lotus but I suspect I made some parts a little thin, but we'll see when I go to foil it.

Not the greatest at art, but I did have a compass and book on Islamic Geometric Patterns I'd been itching to use.

Highly recommend it for anyone who wants to customize but isn't confident in their skill, it's very paint by numbers-esque

We can only hope

She'll be fun in my fallout heavy Moira deck to hand out Wasteland Survival Guides to everyone else, sure to be worthless for them.

My 50/50 commander carrying around a library on the other hand...

I've got some complaints about thornling...

Not seen: Torchling (probably the worst of the bunch), is also rk post art. Would have been funny if he had done the full cycle.

Yooo, this is some spicy Captain Howler tech. Remove a blocker so you can guarantee cashing in the draw.

Depending on your definition of old, some regeneration tech I like.
January 15, 2026 at 10:49 PM
I'm already a big believer in interesting 3 mana rocks, but with the popularity of typal decks I think this one is gonna pop off.

I've got my own changelings with Rukarumel at the helm and its looking juicy.
January 15, 2026 at 2:34 PM
The shapeshifter that shifts themself into their own clothes/accessories is hard to beat.

Now I want an Adventure Time SL with a Jake as every weird changeling creature in magic.

As much as I love Xantcha, my girl Karona gotta be the REAL third option
January 14, 2026 at 2:41 AM
Yeah, it felt like a weirdly named mechanic back in Tarkir to hit the battlefield.
Its already down. They already beheld it.
And "Choose a dragon you control".. choose it to do what? Just be chosen?

Mechanically its fine, but lesser used keywords live or die by their ability to be intuited imo.
January 13, 2026 at 8:08 AM
Even earlier in green, get it on 2?

Is even that good enough in those formats? No idea.
January 8, 2026 at 7:07 PM
The tech does exist though, though I guess being ONLY poison counters it loses any flexibility an any counters card would have.

I feel like poison hate isn't any more offensive than having energy/experience hate.

Amazing callback
January 8, 2026 at 5:31 PM
Interesting, missed that.

I feel like given that the other typal stuff has the full 8, they could have done those + Oko + Gods for the full 10.

Although that would leave treefolk with Gruul, which is a bit of a shift but given Kithkin shifted too I think it would have worked out pretty well.
January 8, 2026 at 4:09 PM
This is how I view it, as a venn diagram of mechanics. But cards are not fully singular points, they represent larger areas in the circle.

These hybrids exist in the intersection, but fully covered by both sides individually. Where as actual Dimir cards exist in a space only coved by both together.

Gallant citizen, Spirited Companion, and Elvish Visionary all sit in that Sliver.

To say that that sliver must be both colors is so say visionary and companion are both Selesnya as well.
January 6, 2026 at 9:26 PM
Notably for the precon you can get this, which is nearly the same thing at 2 mana cheaper. You lose out if your opponents put their own -1/-1 counters on.

But it doesn't work with High Perfect, so curious if they had her in mind or just because it was og shadowmoor.

But insects fit the precon more
January 6, 2026 at 7:49 PM
Yes, my point.
Black can pay life to draw for ANY reason, even if the trigger is typically another colors. So its no different than this faerie as its trigger. Its totally fine in Golgari.

This fairy ALSO does a thing based on casting spells should it shouldn't be golgari based on what you've said
January 6, 2026 at 7:08 PM
These are just the blue effect of "Deal combat damage, draw"
but because they pay 1 life, its okay.

Coastal Piracy is UNDENIABLY not black, its primary blue/secondary green. Should Gix be Dimir too?
January 6, 2026 at 6:48 PM
Blue does not control "On opponent's turns". Black had it over a decade before Hippocamp existed.

Hippocamp is by no means so uniquely blue no other color could do it *slightly* different

Yes it is VERY similar to Hippocamp, but this is undeniably perfectly in black's wheelhouse.
January 6, 2026 at 5:34 PM
Life as a cost IS tertiary for all colors so mechanically it could be.

There are only so many game resources to go around black having COMPLETE dominance on life doesn't really work (imo). Its like relegating "drawing" to one color.

Some other potential ones with only a single printing that may be looking at
