Perhaps the truly fortunate ones whose minds easily learned the way, I'm thinking of people like Thich Nhat Han, Ajahn Chah, many other Buddhist monks, were blessed with genes and cultural support that we in the West were not.

Present moment awareness of the stream of consciousness requires some understanding and practice. Concentration is a skill to be developed. As your skill improves, your mind learns that when anger or worry has captured attention the root causes of dukkha have arisen, and the way has been lost.

Over a few months, having committed to nourishing a loving mind by letting go of anger, you have lessened your contribution to the chaos. You have found something you can do that will help make for a more peaceful world around you. You can bring joy, kindness, patience.

Commanding your mind to calm down doesn't work. Observe this for yourself, and accept it. Like watching a pendulum slow to a stop, watch your mind as you breathe in and out. Softer now, with more detail, the body breathes of its own. Gone is the anger. No longer fed, the flames die out.

If you want a peaceful mind, you will need to change the conditions that are causing it to be agitated. See if you can introduce 'breaks' into your daily routine to go for a walk. Don't take your troubles with you.

We create stress for ourselves. Not intentionally, but we keep striving, not letting the mind calm. There is method to calm the mind naturally. It starts with seclusion by withdrawing from being concerned about the world. Even walking alone will help. Gently nudge the mind to let go. Breathe. Repeat
