A global collective hope crisis is simmering, with many people hurting, criminalized, repressed, and doubting that justice is possible. The old fable of a stable job, home, family and retirement is crumbling. But, things are much more hopeful than they initially seem.

"The (US's) anti-drugs policy isn't aimed at stopping cocaine from reaching the US ...its for dominating the (Global) south in general," said Gustavo Petro in the UN yesterday, on the US striking Venezuelan boats (and I'd add, categorising Latin American countries as terrorists)

Israel has attacked five different countries today: Lebanon, Palestine, Syria (3 locations, including the ancient city of Palmyra), Yemen, and a boat carrying activists and food in Tunisian waters. That's a wholllllle lot of defending itself, ey??

Pakistan and Iran are carrying out the decade’s largest forced migration, deporting Afghans into poverty and repression. With resources already stretched after Sunday’s deadly earthquake, Afghanistan is in no position to support the thousands now arriving.

A whole community of Mazatec people in Oaxaca, #Mexico is being attacked as they try to defend their river from aggregate mining. The repression is proportionate to their resistance and they really are an example of the collective #environmental care that is possible.

Cheap for whom? Im all for solar over fossil fuels obviously, but dont forget it's the Global South that is hit hardest by climate change while contributing much less to it, and lithium and other mineral mining, for manufacturing batteries, often happens here at a very big cost

-zero voices from the protest
-lede on the protest "turning violent" but the real violence here is empire
-zero context re the economic inequality and transnational interests behind gentrification as well as cultural and physical displacement, instead they make it about tourism
tamarapearson.bsky.social
The complete irony of this @nytimes.com piece about a protest against gentrification in #mexico (which they stupidly call "tourism") written by a journalist IN and FROM the US with no knowledge of the country or issue. The piece embodies the mentality & economic power that was being protested 🙄

Big #tech are strangling the Global South. US companies dominate our search results, AI algorithms are full of racial, gender, and pro-West bias, and these companies are dominating whole industries in Mexico. But there is resistance and there are alternatives ... truthout.org/articles/mex...

"In our home, there is no food left — only two bags of flour that we managed to store for these dark days, both spoiled and infested with worms and insects. We ration the flour carefully, hoping it will last as long as possible."
