My ancestors have been dancing since the beginning of time. The fact that we still hold our traditional performance languages in this contemporary era, demonstrates that the descendants of colonisers have lost something deeply personal to their heritage. Cause ain none of y'all able to ballet 🩰 IRL!
I used this extract from the film to apply for the Macmillan Brown Pacific Artist in Residence, at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch. In the middle of my 3month residency I went to Paris to do a show at the Centre Pompidou. In that 3 weeks I was gone I had a huge fall out with a friend.

I should probably update my grief films, now that both my parents are in the ground. Apparatus was defiantly an attempt at breaking generational curses. It might be time to let it all go... Thinking of just releasing this film from 2018 online. It's been shown in so many places around the world.

Great, more Disney bullshit to abstract my cultural heritage into some amorphous cultural slop, informed by the colonial lens of colonised Pacific bodies, so they can make money off kids starved for representation.

Just how faithful is the live-action Moana keeping to the animated original? Pretty closely it would look like! Check out comparisons from the 2026 film versus 2015's.

Created for AsiaTOPA, SAUNIGA explores the majestic world of our earliest ancestors: the animals from the land, sky and ocean.

SAUNIGA recalls the sacred connections between spirits (Aitu) of the old world and the lives of their Samoan descendants. Bringing together dance, adornment and ceremony.

Got to watch this beautiful film on Māori TV last night. I'd encourage everyone in our network to go check it out. It has the best sound design I've heard from a short this year. Next to Tanu Gago's Picking Crew. Congratulations 🎉👏🏽🎉 to Allie Howell and team.
