Using drugs as a pretext to get our hands on Venezuelan gold and oil isn’t innovative leadership… it’s land expansion. The only country that has done it in the last two decades (and they did it twice) is Russia.

I'm sorry... Trump's military has abducted another country's sitting president?

Is there any historical president for this?

"Tanner, you write so much about Stoicism. How do you find things to write about?"

I use AI... but probably not the way you think.

AI isn't a substitute for human creativity (hopefully that never happens), but it is a substitute for laborious information gathering and curation.

Evening, Stoics. I've created a few tools. You may want to check them out. Let me know what you think:

1. sagelikeadvice.com - advice from my AI bot
2. stoicfive.com - 5 day practice challenge
3. virtuequiz.com - identify your character strengths
4. stoictracker - habit tracker

All free, of course

Why not both?
When you're 20, Spotify will ask you if you want to listen to the music of Marcus Whale or the meditations of Marcus Aurelius.

It's very important that you choose Marcus Whale.

I simply could not finish Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises."

I do like Hemingway's quick snappy dialogue and how quickly and elegantly he moves you through the story, but I just didn't like the story. I think I got about 100 pages in and just couldn't do it after that.

Anyone enjoy this book?

A Stoic haiku for your new year:

Habituation,
It creates your character,
So, pay attention.

Bed of luck in 2026 all. See you there.

I don't often visit TK Maxx (the UK used TK rather than TJ as apparently TJ Maxx is the name of another brand here), when I do go it's usually with my wife for some odds and ends for the house, or a good deal on a name brand coat, or something like that, but yesterday, I found the book section...

This is why I loath Holiday’s “work” — he knows so little of actual Stoic philosophy. Like, what an absolute SHIT flow chart.
okay just gotta silently not express my feelings ever as hard as I can until I am old and finally die PHEW. So glad I lived to impress the imaginary audience in my own head with my stoicism
Wow, why didn't anyone think of this before

This movie had a big impact on me. I’m only realising it now, 40 years later, rewatching it as an adult. It covered death, bravery, love, and friendship. Heavy for a kids film, in retrospect, but I think I’ll have my son watch it when he’s a few years older (The Christmas Toy, 1986)

My son is almost two now. I really love being a dad. This is my favourite photo of us together so far. He’s a good little dude.

Given my job and role, I’ve got to point it out: Stoicism can be practiced by everyone and doesn’t preclude any political identity. The present incarnation of both right and left wing, however, would fail the philosophy’s “final exam” — each for very different reasons.

I was watching a silly show, or, I guess my wife was and I was sitting next to her. The question was asked to a guest, “what is your love language?” And I, without thinking, and cynically, said, “ugh. Everyone has the same love language. Orgasms and money.”

We still haven’t stopped laughing.

Many men in their 40s and 50s feel it.

Our careers looks great on paper. Our income is fine. Yet, we have a nagging sense that we are drifting aimlessly rather than directing our lives toward something meaningful.

Stoicism offers a framework to fix this. 🧵

Can we PLEASE, stop using the word "Stoicism" incorrectly? It is a *moral philosophy* about building a *perfect moral character*... it's not whatever the shit Andrew Tate says it is. Stoicism is an alternative to toxic masculinity (or toxic femininity), not the fucking embodiment of it.
"Toxic masculinity does not mean that all masculinity is toxic. It refers to the expectation that men prioritize stoicism, violence, and other stereotypes of masculinity. These stereotypes are detrimental to men and women, as well as society as a whole." www.cbr.com/star-wars-to...

The Left has lost its mind, and the Right has lost its heart.

The result is, respectively:

1. A party that denies practical realities and views pragmatism as a cancer.

2. A party that believes that all kindness is wokeness and infantilising weakness.

The future looks absolutely stygian.
