Wealthy British descendants selling off the precious gems originally buried with the ashes of Buddha in India may not be illegal, but by today’s standards, the ethics of profiteering from colonial era appropriations are highly dubious.

Absolutely agree Andy. It is unconscionable for @kimbellartmuseum.bsky.social to hold any pieces looted by the infamous profiteer and thief Douglas Latchford. Even The Met has returned tainted numerous tainted Khmer sculptures. Do better Kimbell! @nytimes.com @cooperandersonn.bsky.social
This late 7th century Harihara, combining the gods Shiva and Vishnu comes from pre-Angkor #Cambodia. The Kimbell Art Museum in USA bought it in 1988 after Douglas Latchford had sold it to a London dealer. It should be repatriated, full-stop. #stoplooting
