Basically, you add a quart of vanilla to 5 gallons of whole milk, then let it sit in a warm place for at least a week. 🤢 That was how the recipe was passed down. I'm guessing they used whole milk based on what they had access to.

I'm American, but several of my great-grandparents immigrated here from Finland. My aunt made me a family recipe book that includes a few Finnish recipes, one of which is called Pohja Piimä. It does not sound delicious.
