An ICE agent in Portland, OR, targeted a frog-suited protester’s air intake valve with pepper spray — a tactic that medical experts say could have been life-threatening.

biting my lip to not snark "but did they control for the Benadryl" (yes this is a joke) (for the people who don't get it: the studies linking long-term Benadryl use and dementia risk didn't control for the insomnia/untreated MCAS participants were using it for)

"Look at her face.

This is Major General Lorna M. Mahlock, USMC, the first Black woman in Marine Corps history to reach general officer rank. A trailblazer, a warrior, a woman who's earned every credential, medal, and command in her story."

How can––and should––health workers respond when fascist ICE agents invade our hospitals and clinics? I outlined an anti-fascist approach to caregiving in this essay.

Another excellent article by Tara Haelle. I’ve spoken to her a number of times for previous articles and she is one of the best journalists out there covering pediatric medicine. This is a complex issue and she deftly handles the controversial aspects of abusive head trauma.

If you've followed anything on the #Roberson case in Texas, this is an important op ed to read from three pediatricians. I interviewed two of these pediatricians for my story on abusive head trauma.

More inspiring photos of Des Moines students staging a walkout to protest their superintendent's detention by ICE!

(photos by Lily Smith of the Register)
Teenagers walk out of a school and down steps while holding signs with messages like "Keep ICE out" and "Abolish ICE." One student holds a megaphone. Teenagers stand outside and listen to someone speaking. They are holding signs with messages like "Do I look like a criminal?" and "ICE is not nice" and "Protect migrants, protect due process."

I feel so awful for parents of newly diagnosed autistic kids right now, being drowned in such hateful nonsense. You deserve better. Your autistic kid deserves better.

My kid was diagnosed 20 yrs ago; please let me give you hopeful advice:

SCOTUS is utterly out of control. It’s remarkable that Roberts has any shred of hope left that history will not judge his legacy with disdain.

Even with the proviso that we don't know how this is going to end up, there's something so grimly funny about Trump's fixation on punishing Comey for "disloyalty" given that he's the guy who (at least partially) got Trump elected in the first place

They are equally useful (at least for me, in my work as a science journalist who started my career in writing about vaccines) as this framework of the four pillars of disordered doubt. The two constructs are beautifully complementary, one more forest and one more trees.

Only mentioning this here for anyone not familiar with those 5 tactics. Anyone working in debunking, denialism, mis & disinfo, etc will recognize them immediately. First described in 2007, info research John Cook made an acronym of them later. skepticalscience.com/history-flic...

I’m new to the framing you’ve described here of disordered doubt & I’m very grateful I’m seeing this 2 weeks later—it fits perfectly with my epistemological understanding of today’s info environment. It also fits perfectly w the 5 tactics of denialism described by the Hoofnagle brothers in 2007.
