It's messing with my head today. I know all I can do is try and gather, match up what I Know, and what I've heard, learnt and bring it together.

And it's extra hard because that whole generation is just... Gone now. The ones I inherited this from.

But many Canting Tribe Kids didn't qualify for whitewashing (Yes, kids-adults were too far gone, apparently) because their "overwhelming" features were too similar to "That of the Maori or Red Indian". These differences also were the focus of Nazi "Racial Experts", which Empire welcomed.

The gradual white washing of a child, which could take many months, was seen as being "Evolution" - a classic mirroring of how colonialism was viewed.

The enviroment, much like a garden with "weeds" could be "tamed" by the enviroment you cultivate.

In the original image, you can clearly see the Canting Tribe features that meant that these children (Because only children were able to be washed white. Before the savagery "rooted in")
Could never be "Washed White", such as the prominent epicanthal folds, or darker skin tones, or an orange tan.

Canting Tribe children were sometimes thought of as being able to be "Washed White" through skin dye (To remove any genetic translucency of the skin) or through skin bleaching. And of course, the maiming of facial features, like the "surgical" removal of Indigenous features. 🧵

Reaching back through the archives for this.

Back when I was doing Inter-Indigenous cross cultural studies with a Cherokee Academic about "Sacred smoke ceremonies" - specifically looking at the how, why and a closer look at plants.

We had a good discussion about native sweet grasses too ❤️

The profile picture I wanted to use today, because somehow my raccoon eyes and my epicanthal folds made this filter transform them into amazing goth-y makeup. Like seriously, stick a massive winged eyeliner in that and I'd be rocking it 💀

Also, I love it when some of my fave creators all get together. It's like a crossover episode, but real. 😂❤️

My epicanthic eyes. Which on way too many "automatic beauty filters" on phones immediately erases. 😭

A Harvest Festival in 1924, in St Dunstan's Church. Where they're hanging up the fishing nets to bring about a good catch of fish.
👀
And that's the vicar doing it.
👀

(This is folk magic. Very classic, good old fashioned folk magic.)

So Ghost have gone Kingdom of Heaven meets an Ossuary, costume wise, and I'm OBSESSED.

(I've been a fan of theirs for a long time... Back when I could still book to see them in a little university hall for £20 and have basically no rails separating the band from the people haha)

While back that showed thid picture of the King and Queen of the Costers tribe back in the day (That then went on to later influence the Pearlies).
They've also really pushed for cockney to be seen as a community language, which has now been recognised AND with three dialects! 😍 ❤️
