Wow I hadn’t appreciated how much funding had been impacted. It’s just not sustainable and a death sentence for medical research!

Francesca Albanese speaks for humanity when she speaks for Palestinians 🇵🇸:

‘It’s not 75 years since the Nakba. It’s 75 years OF the Nakba.’

It’s ethnic cleansing.
It’s genocide.

Formal recognition of the state of Palestine overnight is a welcome step but we must also listen to the experts outlining what further steps Australia & other nations must take to prevent the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Thanks! Fortunately he was okay. Took a while for the bleeding to stop, and I worried he had broken something, but in the end no damage. Nothing a baby-chino couldn’t fix.

When a mum and son day out turns into a face plant on the playground, a bad blood nose and you walking around like you’ve stepped out of a blood bath…

Happy to say both child and shirt are all okay!

We often hear about the ‘leaky pipeline’ in STEMM – but what if women aren’t leaving, they’re pivoting? 💡

In our August Newsletter we caught up with Cassie Leonard, Founder of ELMM Coaching, to get a sneak peek into the new release Beyond the Pipeline 👀

A digital promotional graphic of the turquoise book “Beyond the Pipeline” on a green background with floral illustrations. A round pink-to-orange gradient sticker reads: “Women don’t quit. We pivot.” An open cardboard box filled with multiple copies of the turquoise book “Beyond the Pipeline.” The books are neatly stacked with some brown packing paper tucked inside the box. Two smiling women stand close together, wearing orange lanyards. One of them holds a turquoise book titled “Beyond the Pipeline.” They appear to be at an event or conference, with people and patterned curtains in the background.

How far have we now come to now have our research recognised at awards such as the Tall Poppy!

I am deeply passionate about my work as a genetic counsellor and my research, and believe there is real value in what we do. As @amcinerney.bsky.social says, our goal is to democratise genomic testing.

The award coincided with the Life After PhD event, where senior GCs shared their career stories to a room full of aspiring research GCs. It was striking to hear the adversities they faced & need to validate the value of our profession. One person being told ‘GC with a PhD was a waste of a post-doc’

I’m honoured to have been awarded a Young Tall Poppy Science Award for 2025, among a cohort of inspiring researchers from across QLD and Australia. The Young Tall Poppy award celebrates excellence in research and a passion for sharing science with the broader community.

On the Uber to the airport for #HGSA2025, I realised I’d left my sunglasses at home. Arranged for a friend to bring them, messaged my husband to leave them outside… His reply?

“Do you want your wallet too?!” 🤦🏻‍♀️😳
