We don't all need a tax cut.

It's unaffordable and disproportionate.

Putting more on the national credit card for the sake of an election.

I wish I expected better.

Tania Plibersek was once a powerful member of the Labor party, high profile Minister and touted as a party leader. Seems to be fading into the distance by the day 🤔
Can anyone work out what the government has actually done to *help* the environment in this term?

Just more votes-before-policy. So disappointingly gutless.

Ridiculous.

Not only in size but in the complete absence of means-testing.

Gina doesn't need it. Twiggy doesn't need it. Self-funded retirees don't. I don't.

Why isn't it means-tested?

Politics.

Wasting billions just so no-one complains they missed out.

Rather than dial back on the gambling ads or the kickbacks to fix its integrity nightmare, the AFL is now demanding it receive the private info of every punter so it can track who they are.

We need to break the toxic nexus between gambling and sport.

Read it and weep:

(And ban gambling ads. Now.)

Big Gas is taking the piss. Help us spread the word, and share this. 👇

90% of WA’s gas is exported. Big Gas takes 73% the gas for free.

To add insult to injury, these gas exporters have never paid resources tax.

It is madness that this, by Alan Kohler, needs to be said.

If you sell tickets to a sporting event, you start by counting the seats and only selling that many tickets.

For some reason, immigration policy under both parties assumes those rules don't apply.

Australian immigration is a mess, controlled by business and universities
It seems beyond either the wit or the political muscle of Australia's political leaders to set an immigration target, let alone to meet it.

An absolute bloody disgrace.

Democracy for sale, rubber-stamped by the duopoly.

I said if this was passed that I'd use my (tiny) influence to advocate for putting the majors last this election.

It's locked in.

Please, vote for your favourite independent/minor party.

The argument for the massive pay packets of our top public servants falls apart when you know that the US Secretary of Defense (who has to oversee a budget bigger than the entire Aus Fed Budget) gets half the pay of the Australian secretary of Defence! #fatcats #auspol @mrrexpatrick.bsky.social

But also, the 'plan' on the table "...included a cap of two gambling ads per hour on radio and TV...".

Because two ads can't hurt, right?

And they couldn't even go through with *that*???)

Unbelievably gutless.

'What did you do to help problem gamblers and kids, dad?'

'I delayed for a term and said we'd look at it later, son.'

Ban. Gambling. Ads. Now.

If you were a sports administrator (not the CEO of a 'product'), you'd:

1. Put games on at times that kids could watch

2. Make the fans your priority, not marks for bookies

3. Take care of your players

4. Take less money from broadcasters and sponsors if it contravened 1-3
The growth fetish that plagues not-for-profits always stuns me.

Why do the NRL and AFL need to chase gambling money?

They don't, other than to build an empire.

And they trample their own fans in the process.

A disgrace.

If you're going to make a loan, make it to a politically sensitive company.

If it's going to go bad, hope it's in an election year.

Another $50m of our money spent to shore up votes, this time in the regions.

And what does the taxpayer get for it?

Nothing.

I'm not cheering for either side.

I'm far from sure the Opposition is any better.

But I'm not saying what 'should' happen.

I'm giving a view on what people are saying/feeling.

The government has a tin ear. That could cost it.

"It's the economy stupid"

- nothing to help fight inflation
- nothing to help fix house prices
- immigration at unsustainable levels

All real.

Then:

- telling people they're helping
- telling people how to think on social issues

Not real, but damaging

I have zero idea how the federal election will pan out.

But the government's pretense that it's been helping with people's problem is falling on deaf ears.

Labor supporters can argue the reality, but Labor is losing the perception war.

(And much of the reality)

The Federal election is shaping up as a re-run of the US one.

MAGA-style 'Get Australia Back On Track', with a dose of identity politics and Laura Norder.

And the retort is to go after the person saying it, as they did with Trump.

How did that work out?
