States already have different criteria for marriage, it’s the universal recognition of same sex unions that is a financial nightmare to unravel.
Ex. A couple with a joint mortgage & pension benefits in NY couldn’t and wouldn’t retire to Florida or South Carolina if they have to “divorce” first.

IMO - that is an invalid assumption unless our Country balkanizes.
