Yeah I mean you don’t see actual devs asking for mean advice because like - they already get valuable feedback

I think game dev is also full of “tourists” - people who like the idea of game dev but never actually really do the hard stuff.

They like jeering their advice from the sidelines

I think it’s also an outlet for people specifically to be mean as well

But in general showing off some video of gameplay or a trailer with zero context and expecting feedback on things that you haven’t already noticed means you’ve probably already failed in getting feedback or to playtest extensively

I was on Reddit for a while there but oh man is it a depressing toxic echo chamber of marketing “advice” and basic beginner stuff.

I have to wonder what percentage of people there have ever shipped anything.

Especially in r/DestroyMyGame…

I also remember if people were mean-spirited then mods usually took quite a hard stance

Do you remember when there were surveys asking if email would be a useful technology for people to have?

Smartphones? Internet?

Really the solution probably looks like multiple marketplaces all with their own audiences and serving different needs rather than a very small handful of them with this oversaturation of games fighting for the same scraps
