Oh no I misremembered the title! I meant "Working Effectively with Legacy Code" by Michael C. Feathers (for anyone who is looking for recommendations!)

Without an ethos of curiosity, without a constant undercurrent of self-doubt to innoculate us, anyone among us will gaze into a mirror and think we see the world.

BRB going to read "Refactoring Legacy Code" out of spite (spite for the people who are downplaying the importance of reading. Not you!)

And then I'm going to find someone who will commit to reading it, and give it to them.

Fun random fact: the animated "Garfield and Friends" show had an episode whose antagonist (such as he was) was named Dr. Bean
Dr. GARBANZO Bean!

So yeah you are pretty much spot on!

Wait so their take on metagaming was basically, "well how else do you expect to get anywhere?!"

I don't know about the meal, and it sounds like this was more of "a one-off thing that someone in the Army did" rather than "an Army thing", but regardless I encourage you to consider Cephalopod Surprise for dessert!

FWIW my guess would be "quite like" and that autocorrect went, "nope, no idea what to do with that pair of strings, must be laser safety jargon; I'll just leave them as-is"

Coda: The right is also realizing that liberals were treating them with some modicum of respect because of a belief in the norms of the country. Norms are a detente, an agreement to use them. It turns out we can take off the gloves too, and you can see them realizing it in real time.

(though perhaps that is just me being naive, and New York really did turn out just to say "fuck that guy!" That seems like it would be more of a Philly thing, but I could see it in NY as well 🤔)

One: that is absolutely phenomenal! Incredible work by Mamdani himself and his team and all the volunteers!
Two: he did this _with Cuomo running as a spoiler!!!_ (I realize that he wouldn't have gotten _all_ of Cuomo's votes, but it seems like it would have been even higher without Cuomo)

Maybe not him, specifically. But in that he represents an energy and approach that other Democratic candidates would do well to adopt, yes, I hope this is the future of the Democratic party!

I want to say the tubes were 2-3 feet in diameter, to give the plants plenty of space to grow into, and... About 4 feet tall? Maybe more. I can't remember if we doubled them up to be tall enough or if we also had something overhead to tie the plants up to 😖

We did tubes of ¼" hardware cloth around a couple of tomato plants a few years back and it worked reasonably well. Seems like it could be feasible to wrap a bed with it 🤔 (We also put some strategic roughly 3"x3" cut-outs around it so we could still reach in and get the tomatoes out)
