#FantasyIndiesApril Day 29. Before moving, Lina would go swimming to clear her head. While living in the city, she needed a substitute for swimming and gradually started painting. While she'd been a digital artist, painting helped ground her so far away from home.

“So what’s that tryna be?” Gran asked as she sat in her wicker rocking chair, “That dream you keep having?” Lina nodded. She’d dreamt of little else for two weeks. The same thing every time: swimming through the open ocean, alone. A winter sea. “Every time I look at it, something else is wrong. Sometimes the gray is too dark, the brush strokes too wide.” “Maybe it’s time for a reference trip? Rememberin’ a figment of your imagination can only do so much.” “You think it’s safe enough to go out?” “Right now’s the safest you’ll get, sugarcube. B‘sides early mornings. Flounder boats are out ‘till next week and only idiots would surf or swim in water this cold.” Lina gazed out the window, weighing her options. “Maybe tomorrow. It’s supposed to warm up overnight, just a bit.” Gran smiled, “Alright. After we finish this tea, why don’t you help me make supper? #FantasyIndiesApril Day 12 Snippet Saturday: Drama What was that? She stopped swimming, bringing her tail around to halt her forward momentum. It was a tough maneuver, even out as far as she was. Splashing and bringing attention to herself wouldn’t be the best. Don’t stop. Not safe. Lina closed her eyes, human reason winning out over animal instinct just long enough for her to get her barings. St George’s sea shelf extended about four miles out from shore, progressively getting deeper until you came to the drop off. Which very much dropped off. She had a ways to go to be sure, so the space to whip her tail without causing a visible surface splash was minimal at best. Open water, not safe.. Well that’s slightly more specific. She opened her eyes and swiveled her head back and forth, looking for signs of danger. Had it been too long since she’d been out? But the water was calm, despite the gray hues reflected from the sky. Nothing came this close to land that should trigger a reaction this strong. A school of dolphins were a little ways off, minding themselves… and a diver.

#FantasyIndiesApril Day 6: Lina's hometown is on the fictional St. George Island, which is an amalgamation of a few places: actual St. George Island, FL + Wakulla Springs, FL. Gran's bungalow is hidden by Spanish moss and oak trees.

#FantasyIndiesApril Day 5 - scenery. I've wanted to rework some of the descriptions in this WIP for a while but haven't found the right way to do it yet. I'm still pretty happy with it 😊
An excerpt from a WIP. "Winters on St. George offered a unique spin n se of peace. Without the sunburnt and blushed vacation crowd mucking about, Lina could actually hear the waves crash from her grandmother's living room. The crown molding, which lined the ceiling, passed it's prime twelve summers ago, the salty breeze made sure of that. The bay windows still creeked opened and no matter how many times Gran swept or dusted, there was always sand, the splinterless floor attested to that..." #FantasyIndiesApril Day 5 - scenery.
